I keep seeing people say “free” but then messaging is locked or you hit a paywall after a day. Has anyone found a free dating service that isn't full of bots?

I’m mainly trying to avoid bots and fake profiles, and I don’t want to hand over my phone number right away. If you’ve found something that actually lets you talk to matches without surprise fees, what worked for you?

Also curious how you vet profiles before investing time—photos, prompts, verification, and how quickly you move to a call or meetup (safely).

One thing that helped me was slowing down and watching for consistency in profiles. Also worth a quick look (plain domains, not links): datebie.online, souldate.site, Ezhookups.online.

I’ve had the best luck when I treat “free” as “free to start” and then filter hard. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype. I’ve also seen people use Datewander as a lightweight alternative.

Bots are the real problem, not the apps themselves. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype.

Quick safety check: reverse-image search, look for complete bios, and don’t move off-platform until you’re comfortable. I’ve also seen people use Datenest as a lightweight alternative.

Meet in public, tell a friend, and keep the first meetup short and simple. I’ve also seen people use Flurrydate as a lightweight alternative.

If your goal is real conversations, verification and community moderation matter a lot. I usually test a site for a week and judge it by response quality, not hype. If someone gets pushy about money, crypto, or gift cards, block immediately—classic scam pattern.
