Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. Has anyone here had real success using the aff dating site this year — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — luvdate.site seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

From the threads I've read, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, granted the bigger platforms rarely say so. Despite the fact that the swipe-based apps look similar, the discovery feed differs marginally, but only if you stick with it.

The detail people skip is that the niche ones have got noticeably worse for bots across a couple of different accounts. The photo review and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

While sites that skip verification look similar, the daily match cap differs considerably, though it depends heavily on where you live. Judging by my own inbox, the newer sites have made the free version harder to use, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If you keep matching but never talking, say what you actually want up front — it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Going by last month's threads, the DatingFly community gets mentioned a lot for people who hate paywalls if that matches what you want.

If you live somewhere dense, give it a full week before judging — it filters out the time wasters fast. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, and that alone put me off.

Depending on what you are after, the Rendate community seems better set up for anyone starting from scratch.

The part nobody mentions is that the bigger platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit across a couple of different accounts. From what I've seen, if you want something casual the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than keep the first message short and specific.

Though the regional platforms look similar, the block list differs somewhat, and it shows in the reply rate.

On the same subject, Luvdate reads as more honest about quieter weeknights.

I stuck with the chat-first sites over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered hardly at all most.

  • In my experience, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than move to a proper conversation quickly
  • When you have tried three apps already, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • For what it's worth, the block list is the thing that decides it, granted the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • On reflection, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than test two platforms at once

Throughout most of last year the niche ones have made the first message cost something, so results vary more than you'd think. The search filter setup and the boost system pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think.

Since this keeps coming up, the Ezhookups community moves faster on quieter weeknights.

Give it a full week before judging, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, and nobody warns you about it. What surprised me was that most of the free apps have got noticeably worse for bots since the start of the year.

The part nobody mentions is that the ones with a paywall have got noticeably worse for bots after a slow start.

  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • Avoid opening with a compliment, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, so treat the reviews with caution
  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered meaningfully most
  • Something worth flagging is that the moderation queue matters considerably more than the distance radius, and it makes a real difference
  • datingfly.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

Speaking personally, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, granted the forum-style sites rarely say so.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

Coming at it from another angle, the Flurrydate platform seems better set up for wider search radiuses, so it is worth a look.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: it costs nothing to try. If I'm honest, the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, but only if you stick with it.

In the past six months I noticed the age check behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • The photo review changed somewhat over roughly forty conversations, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • If you keep getting the same profiles, keep the first message short and specific — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • If your inbox is dead, check the free tier limits before you commit — the first week is never representative
  • Though the forum-style sites look similar, the age check differs considerably, and it makes a real difference
  • If you keep matching but never talking, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — that is the part that actually moves the needle

Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, which most people notice within a week.

For what it's worth, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight.

  • The profile prompt and the verification step pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate
  • When your inbox is dead, the swipe-based apps tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate
  • The discovery feed and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Sites like datingfly.online are worth a look if you want something less mainstream

After a fortnight of testing the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots, and it shows in the reply rate. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, which changes the whole experience.

In the last stretch of trying I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, so results vary more than you'd think.

Worth adding that Souldate is worth a look for the first-message problem, judging by what people report here.
