When you want something casual, the ones with a paywall tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but only if you stick with it. How do I do a pof search without having an account — I've seen it come up in other threads but never with a solid answer, so figured I'd ask directly.

I've also been noticing luvdate.site mentioned a fair bit lately in similar discussions. In my experience, the older established sites have made the first message cost something, though it depends heavily on where you live.

I stuck with the bigger platforms since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered a fair bit most.

Honestly had the exact same confusion about this not too long ago. The answer really depends on what device you're on and what you're actually trying to do.

To be fair, apps with a video option have improved the filtering a fair bit, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Coming at it from another angle, the Flamedate app works noticeably better for people in smaller towns, though your mileage will vary.

In the last stretch of trying most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, and it makes a real difference.

  • The thing that finally clicked was that the search filter setup matters slightly more than the messaging limit, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The awkward truth is that the niche ones have improved the filtering a fair bit in the last stretch of trying
  • When you are after something serious, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel slightly worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • Having tried most of these, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than say what you actually want up front

I stuck with the forum-style sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered hardly at all most.

If you want a second opinion, the Datedesire boards gets mentioned a lot for wider search radiuses before you write the whole category off.

While the newer sites look similar, the read receipt setting differs considerably, which explains a lot of the complaints here. When you are new to this, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

I stuck with the swipe-based apps after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the daily match cap mattered hardly at all most.

What actually mattered was that the swipe-based apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance across a couple of different accounts.

  • If you have tried three apps already, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — that is where most people give up too early
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which changes the whole experience
  • Being blunt about it, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since that is where most people give up too early
  • If you have limited time in the evenings, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

Speaking personally, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than widen the distance radius early on.

The mobile experience tends to lag behind desktop on almost every platform I've tried. If you're on phone, expect to work around a few quirks.

When you keep getting the same profiles, the chat-first sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datelink threads seems better set up for anyone after something slower if that matches what you want.

When you want something casual, apps with a video option tend to feel a little worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then use a recent photo with your face clear, which changes the whole experience.

Though the chat-first sites look similar, the search filter setup differs quite a lot, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Give it a full week before judging, because it filters out the time wasters fast, and nobody warns you about it.

If distance is the sticking point, ezhookups.online is more forgiving about people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

When you are new to this, the older established sites tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, which most people notice within a week.

  • The thing that finally clicked was that the read receipt setting matters meaningfully more than the photo review, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Test two platforms at once, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, and nobody warns you about it

The free tier and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The age check and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did massively more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live. The block list changed hardly at all after a slow start, and it shows in the reply rate.

The thing that finally clicked was that the forum-style sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts in the time I've been posting here. In the past six months most of the free apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, though it depends heavily on where you live.

I stuck with the ones people keep recommending these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered slightly most.

  • Realistically, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that apps with a video option rarely say so
  • Move to a proper conversation quickly, because it costs nothing to try, and that alone put me off
  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall over the last month, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered somewhat most
  • When you are in a smaller town, apps with a video option tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live

Give it a full week before judging, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, but only if you stick with it.
