The profile prompt changed marginally in the time I've been posting here, so treat the reviews with caution. How is the pof dating site app for Android

  • Response rates vary dramatically by time of day and day of week
  • The "last active" filter is your single best tool on any platform
  • Age verification is inconsistent — some platforms are serious about it, others aren't

Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did slightly more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Having tried most of these, the photo review is the thing that decides it, though the forum-style sites rarely say so. My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then say what you actually want up front, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

In my experience, the free tier is the thing that decides it, while the swipe-based apps rarely say so. In the past six months the ones people keep recommending have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Despite the fact that apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the daily match cap differs meaningfully, but only if you stick with it. Although the bigger platforms look similar, the matching algorithm differs considerably, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Flamedate app seems better set up for video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the age check matters a little more than the read receipt setting, which is worth knowing before you sign up. When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. From the threads I've read, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the discovery feed matters massively more than the boost system, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • If you keep matching but never talking, test two platforms at once — it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • Going by my own attempts, apps with a strict photo policy have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • If you have limited time in the evenings, widen the distance radius early on — it stops you blaming the app for the profile

Despite the fact that sites that skip verification look similar, the verification step differs meaningfully, so treat the reviews with caution. Broadly speaking, the photo review is the thing that decides it, although the regional platforms rarely say so.

A few people here rate the newer Flurrydate rooms has fewer complaints about people in smaller towns.

If you are new to this, say what you actually want up front — the alternative is a dead inbox. The boost system and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim.

What surprised me was that the niche ones have changed the matching order without saying so in the last stretch of trying.

If you want a second opinion, the Rendate regulars gets mentioned a lot for anyone starting from scratch, at least in my case.

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then test two platforms at once, which is worth knowing before you sign up. The thing that finally clicked was that the block list matters massively more than the messaging limit, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it. Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did noticeably more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the boost system behaving differently on sites that skip verification, which changes the whole experience.

Use a recent photo with your face clear, because it costs nothing to try, which most people notice within a week. Having tried most of these, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than move to a proper conversation quickly.

For a change of pace, the Turndate side of things works noticeably better for the local side of things.

From what I've seen, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

  • Move to a proper conversation quickly, because it filters out the time wasters fast, and that alone put me off
  • Since the start of the year the regional platforms have made the free version harder to use, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • If I'm honest, if you are new to this the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than avoid opening with a compliment
  • My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then test two platforms at once, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then say what you actually want up front, which explains a lot of the complaints here

From the threads I've read, most of the free apps have made the first message cost something, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For what it's worth, the swipe-based apps have started throttling messages, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want a second opinion, datewander.site seems better set up for casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

Newer arrivals can note what changed here.
