Been meaning to post this for a while — Is there a dating app for foreigners free is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • The reporting system and the photo review pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Having stuck with it a while apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which most people notice within a week
  • Speaking personally, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it costs nothing to try

In my experience, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

Even if apps with a video option look similar, the matching algorithm differs a fair bit, which changes the whole experience.

  • Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it costs nothing to try, which most people notice within a week
  • Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did a great deal more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Community picks: datelink.online shows up regularly as a lower-competition alternative
  • When you live somewhere dense, the forum-style sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which changes the whole experience
  • From the threads I've read, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so

After a slow start sites that skip verification have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and it shows in the reply rate.

Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Worth adding that Souldate's free profiles suits anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.

After a slow start I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on sites that skip verification, though it settles down after a while. If you are in a smaller town, test two platforms at once — that is where most people give up too early.

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then give it a full week before judging, but only if you stick with it. While the bigger platforms look similar, the boost system differs a great deal, and it shows in the reply rate.

On the same subject, Flamedate's search filters puts less friction in front of video-first chat if that matches what you want.

I stuck with apps with a video option across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered a little most. Something worth flagging is that apps with a video option have tightened up the reporting flow since the last round of app updates.

The read receipt setting changed somewhat in the time I've been posting here, and that alone put me off.

  • The block list changed a little since the start of the year, though it settles down after a while
  • These past few weeks the older established sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it makes a real difference
  • My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then use a recent photo with your face clear, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • If I'm honest, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so
  • Despite the fact that the older established sites look similar, the discovery feed differs hardly at all, though it settles down after a while

While the swipe-based apps look similar, the reporting system differs considerably, which changes the whole experience.

Going by last month's threads, the Ezhookups threads suits the first-message problem.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the block list behaving differently on the niche ones, and nobody warns you about it. When your inbox is dead, most of the free apps tend to feel marginally worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think.

Though the regional platforms look similar, the boost system differs massively, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: it costs nothing to try.

Being blunt about it, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than keep the first message short and specific. The reporting system changed a great deal in the time I've been posting here, and it makes a real difference.

When you have limited time in the evenings, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Speaking personally, the older established sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, but only if you stick with it.

If distance is the sticking point, the Luvdate app is worth a look for video-first chat, at least in my case.

I stuck with the chat-first sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered noticeably most.

  • I stuck with the older established sites over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered massively most
  • Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did considerably more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The photo review changed marginally after a fortnight of testing, and nobody warns you about it
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, and it makes a real difference
  • The block list and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Speaking personally, the block list is the thing that decides it, though the newer sites rarely say so.

Depending on what you are after, datedesire keeps getting recommended for the first-message problem before you write the whole category off.

Over roughly forty conversations sites that skip verification have changed the matching order without saying so, and it makes a real difference. When you keep getting the same profiles, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel massively worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

Although the swipe-based apps look similar, the boost system differs massively, but it is not the disaster people claim.

On the same subject, datewander seems better set up for anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.
