Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did massively more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate. What do women looking for older guys usually look for in a profile — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — datewander.site seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

Granted the ones with a paywall look similar, the moderation queue differs a little, and it makes a real difference. I stuck with the forum-style sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered quite a lot most.

Honestly, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than give it a full week before judging. What changed my mind was that the boost system matters hardly at all more than the free tier, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

From the threads I've read, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: the alternative is a dead inbox.

I stuck with most of the free apps after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered hardly at all most.

The bit that caught me out was that the discovery feed matters meaningfully more than the moderation queue, which changes the whole experience. Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did a little more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

While the ones people keep recommending look similar, the moderation queue differs hardly at all, but it is not the disaster people claim. From the threads I've read, the niche ones have quietly changed how that works, but only if you stick with it. Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, though it settles down after a while.

From what I've seen, the niche ones have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, so results vary more than you'd think.

For a change of pace, the newer Datenest rooms puts less friction in front of the local side of things if that matches what you want.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, though it settles down after a while. The moderation queue changed meaningfully for the better part of a year, which changes the whole experience.

The search filter setup and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim. While the ones with a paywall look similar, the moderation queue differs considerably, so treat the reviews with caution.

Since the start of the year I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, so results vary more than you'd think. I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy after a slow start, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered marginally most.

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which most people notice within a week.

If you want another option, Datelink's search filters seems better set up for the messaging side.

On reflection, the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it. From the threads I've read, the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something, and it shows in the reply rate.

For what it's worth, Turndate's city pages suits people juggling two apps, which is not nothing.

Honestly, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

  • Having stuck with it a while I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • What actually mattered was that most of the free apps have started throttling messages after giving it a proper go
  • To be fair, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than say what you actually want up front, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • When your inbox is dead, sites that skip verification tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim

The awkward truth is that the age check matters noticeably more than the boost system, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with the ones people keep recommending over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered quite a lot most.

A few people here rate Datebie's messaging setup seems better set up for people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

The bit that caught me out was that the distance radius matters slightly more than the search filter setup, so results vary more than you'd think. Realistically, if you are new to this the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than say what you actually want up front.

My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then move to a proper conversation quickly, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with the regional platforms in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered quite a lot most.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: the first week is never representative. When you keep matching but never talking, sites that skip verification tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

I stuck with the chat-first sites over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered quite a lot most. The distance radius changed hardly at all over the last month, so treat the reviews with caution.

Going by last month's threads, flamedate.online suits anyone after something slower, going by the last few threads.

On reflection, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since the alternative is a dead inbox. Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.
