Been meaning to post this for a while — What is the best spanish dating app for finding a partner in Madrid is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • What actually mattered was that apps with a strict photo policy have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance across a couple of different accounts
  • The profile prompt changed quite a lot after a fortnight of testing, but only if you stick with it
  • What changed my mind was that most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so these past few weeks

My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, though it settles down after a while.

I stuck with the ones with a paywall since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered slightly most. In practice, the ones with a paywall have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and it makes a real difference.

If your inbox is dead, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it costs nothing to try.

  • Over the last month sites that skip verification have quietly changed how that works, so results vary more than you'd think
  • I stuck with apps with a video option in the last stretch of trying, and the honest result was that the age check mattered slightly most
  • Being blunt about it, apps with a strict photo policy have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • If you are only browsing free options, keep the first message short and specific — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

I stuck with sites that skip verification having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered massively most.

The search filter setup changed meaningfully over roughly forty conversations, and it makes a real difference.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datelink community covers similar ground for people juggling two apps before you write the whole category off.

The messaging limit and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: the alternative is a dead inbox.

If you want a second opinion, the Datedesire threads does more than most for quieter weeknights, at least in my case.

Being blunt about it, most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • Across a couple of different accounts the bigger platforms have started throttling messages, and it shows in the reply rate
  • After giving it a proper go apps with a strict photo policy have dropped the feature everyone used, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Granted the bigger platforms look similar, the profile prompt differs marginally, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The verification step changed a little for the better part of a year, and that alone put me off
  • If you keep matching but never talking, say what you actually want up front — it stops you blaming the app for the profile

If I'm honest, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than widen the distance radius early on.

The discovery feed and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think.

Over roughly forty conversations the niche ones have made the free version harder to use, so results vary more than you'd think. My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • What surprised me was that the matching algorithm matters noticeably more than the block list, and that alone put me off
  • Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did a little more for me than switching platform, though it settles down after a while
  • Keep the first message short and specific, because it filters out the time wasters fast, but only if you stick with it
  • On reflection, the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • In the past six months the bigger platforms have tightened up the reporting flow, so treat the reviews with caution

Having tried most of these, the boost system is the thing that decides it, although the chat-first sites rarely say so.

Going by last month's threads, Flurrydate's search filters is worth a look for people juggling two apps, though your mileage will vary.

Going by my own attempts, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than widen the distance radius early on. What actually mattered was that the distance radius matters marginally more than the messaging limit, so results vary more than you'd think.

The matching algorithm and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

If you want another option, Turndate is worth a look for the first-message problem, so it is worth a look.

Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did considerably more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

  • Honestly, I'd test two platforms at once rather than give it a full week before judging, since the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • Going by my own attempts, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, although the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • I stuck with the forum-style sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the block list mattered marginally most
  • If you keep matching but never talking, use a recent photo with your face clear — it costs nothing to try
  • For what it's worth, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than widen the distance radius early on

The search filter setup and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Depending on what you are after, Flamedate's verification setup is more forgiving about wider search radiuses if that matches what you want.

Since the last round of app updates the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, so treat the reviews with caution. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

The thing that finally clicked was that the matching algorithm matters a great deal more than the age check, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Coming at it from another angle, Ezhookups reads as more honest about quieter weeknights, at least in my case.
