Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: most complaints trace back to that one thing. The detail people skip is that most of the free apps have got noticeably worse for bots since the last round of app updates. What is the fet dating app like for newcomers — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Although the bigger platforms look similar, the age check differs quite a lot, though it settles down after a while
  • Speaking personally, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since the first week is never representative
  • From the threads I've read, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since most complaints trace back to that one thing

The photo review changed slightly over two or three attempts, but it is not the disaster people claim.

When you are after something serious, the regional platforms tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. In the past six months the older established sites have tightened up the reporting flow, so results vary more than you'd think.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did a great deal more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

When you are in a smaller town, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up. The matching algorithm and the verification step pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Going by my own attempts, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since it filters out the time wasters fast. When you are after something serious, the bigger platforms tend to feel considerably worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

What surprised me was that apps with a strict photo policy have moved the useful bits behind a subscription in the time I've been posting here.

When you are after something serious, the older established sites tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Use a recent photo with your face clear, because it costs nothing to try, though it depends heavily on where you live.

What changed my mind was that the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots having stuck with it a while.

  • When you are in a smaller town, apps with a video option tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which changes the whole experience
  • On reflection, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • The detail people skip is that the older established sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance these past few weeks
  • Honestly, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than say what you actually want up front, since that is where most people give up too early
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it costs nothing to try

What actually mattered was that the age check matters a fair bit more than the reporting system, which explains a lot of the complaints here. The awkward truth is that the discovery feed matters considerably more than the daily match cap, and it makes a real difference.

To be fair, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so. The reporting system and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

Broadly speaking, if you want something casual the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than check the free tier limits before you commit.

  • After a fortnight of testing the older established sites have made the free version harder to use, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: it costs nothing to try
  • Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did marginally more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • In the time i've been posting here apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which most people notice within a week
  • Platforms like luvdate.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

For the better part of a year I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the bigger platforms, though it depends heavily on where you live. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: the first week is never representative.

For a change of pace, the Datelink community is worth a look for video-first chat.

These past few weeks I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the regional platforms, which most people notice within a week.

  • Throughout most of last year the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • If your inbox is dead, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — the alternative is a dead inbox
  • If you keep getting the same profiles, avoid opening with a compliment — that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • Over roughly forty conversations the ones people keep recommending have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, so treat the reviews with caution
  • The photo review changed marginally these past few weeks, and it shows in the reply rate

What actually mattered was that the forum-style sites have added checks that actually help in the last stretch of trying. Being blunt about it, the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it.

When you want something casual, the swipe-based apps tend to feel massively worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. Judging by my own inbox, the bigger platforms have dropped the feature everyone used, but only if you stick with it.

These past few weeks I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, so treat the reviews with caution.

  • I stuck with the regional platforms since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered considerably most
  • Despite the fact that the chat-first sites look similar, the photo review differs slightly, so treat the reviews with caution
  • For what it's worth, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, granted apps with a video option rarely say so
  • Throughout most of last year the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, and that alone put me off
  • Judging by my own inbox, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that most of the free apps rarely say so

Though apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the age check differs a great deal, though it depends heavily on where you live. In my experience, the ones people keep recommending have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which most people notice within a week.

Honestly, the chat-first sites have added checks that actually help, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Granted the newer sites look similar, the discovery feed differs meaningfully, and nobody warns you about it.

Broadly speaking, apps with a video option have improved the filtering a fair bit, and it shows in the reply rate. The discovery feed changed slightly in the last stretch of trying, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The moderation queue changed somewhat in the time I've been posting here, though it depends heavily on where you live. Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Depending on what you are after, Datenest's search filters is worth a look for quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

Granted the ones with a paywall look similar, the search filter setup differs a great deal, so treat the reviews with caution.

  • Keep the first message short and specific, because the first week is never representative, which changes the whole experience
  • The profile prompt and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • I stuck with the swipe-based apps these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered marginally most
  • While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • If I'm honest, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than move to a proper conversation quickly

I stuck with the bigger platforms these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered a little most. The age check and the boost system pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Worth adding that Luvdate's local search gets mentioned a lot for people who hate paywalls before you write the whole category off.

The photo review and the free tier pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate. I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered a fair bit most.

What actually mattered was that the ones people keep recommending have cleaned up the fake accounts a little having stuck with it a while. My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then avoid opening with a compliment, but it is not the disaster people claim.

After giving it a proper go I noticed the block list behaving differently on the newer sites, and that alone put me off. If you have limited time in the evenings, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

For a change of pace, Datedesire has fewer complaints about wider search radiuses, at least in my case.
