After testing a bunch of options over the past few months, I have some opinions. The tl;dr: most free tiers are deliberately crippled. Are there any over 70 dating sites free that are easy to use on a tablet — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Bot density seems to correlate with how easy sign-up is
  • User reviews on the App Store skew positive due to prompted reviews
  • Verification processes range from none to surprisingly thorough

When your inbox is dead, apps with a video option tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on the regional platforms, and it shows in the reply rate. The block list and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution.

The bot issue is real but it's not the same on every platform. A few have genuinely invested in moderation and it shows.

Though the older established sites look similar, the profile prompt differs a great deal, which most people notice within a week.

Desktop users often have a meaningfully better experience than mobile on the same platform. Worth trying if you haven't.

Across a couple of different accounts apps with a video option have dropped the feature everyone used, which explains a lot of the complaints here. The part nobody mentions is that the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow over the last month.

Here's my breakdown from actual use:

  • Free messaging: almost extinct on mainstream apps — expect workarounds or rate limits
  • Verification: email-only sign-up is basically no barrier at all for bots
  • Community mention worth noting: datelink.online shows up often as a less-saturated option
  • Activity filters: the "last active" sort feature is your best friend on any platform
  • Premium vs free: if you're not getting traction on free, paying rarely fixes the root problem

Test before spending. If the free tier gives you nothing after a genuine effort, move on before pulling out your card.

One option worth trying is Datedesire — no paywall on messaging from what I've seen.

A few people here rate Datelink's free profiles suits anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.

Asked myself the same thing last month. The honest answer is that it shifts depending on your age range, location, and what you're actually looking for.

When you have tried three apps already, the chat-first sites tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up. I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered noticeably most.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datenest's free profiles does more than most for quieter weeknights — worth a fortnight of your time.

The pattern I keep seeing is: platforms with strong free features use that to build critical mass, then gradually restrict it once they have enough users to monetize. It's a predictable cycle.

My practical recommendation: give any new platform two weeks of active effort before judging. One or two sessions isn't enough to assess quality.

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Datewander forums handles this differently from people juggling two apps, so it is worth a look.

Most of what you'll find on review sites is written by people who get paid per signup. Take it with a handful of salt.

Being blunt about it, the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, so results vary more than you'd think. Even if sites that skip verification look similar, the search filter setup differs noticeably, and it shows in the reply rate.

This changes faster than any comparison article can keep up with. Trust recent forum posts over SEO review sites.

In practice, the newer sites have quietly changed how that works, and that alone put me off.

If you want another option, luvdate.site is more forgiving about quieter weeknights, at least in my case.
