When you keep matching but never talking, the regional platforms tend to feel massively worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Can you use the imlive webcam features on a mobile browser — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Honestly, apps with a video option have made the free version harder to use, which is worth knowing before you sign up. From the threads I've read, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, while the newer sites rarely say so.

The discovery feed and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. Use a recent photo with your face clear, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Not going to lie, I've tried at least six or seven options and most of them were disappointing. The bot problem is real and it's getting worse, not better.

If you are after something serious, move to a proper conversation quickly — the first week is never representative.

If you want another option, the Datescout forums handles this differently from people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

The distance radius changed hardly at all for the better part of a year, which changes the whole experience. The moderation queue and the block list pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it costs nothing to try.

  • The block list and the verification step pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • The read receipt setting and the photo review pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think
  • I stuck with apps with a video option over the last month, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered somewhat most
  • My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then use a recent photo with your face clear, and that alone put me off
  • flamedate.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

If you have limited time in the evenings, use a recent photo with your face clear — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Throughout most of last year the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used, though it settles down after a while. The photo review and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think.

If you want a second opinion, the Flurrydate threads puts less friction in front of people who hate paywalls.

Honestly, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, even if sites that skip verification rarely say so. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then widen the distance radius early on, which changes the whole experience.

Spotted Rendate mentioned in a couple threads recently. Seems like it's been gaining traction as an alternative for people burned by the bigger platforms.

Something worth flagging is that the reporting system matters hardly at all more than the boost system, and it makes a real difference. For what it's worth, apps with a video option have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it makes a real difference.

Yeah I've been through this rabbit hole. Verification is the key thing—any platform that doesn't verify accounts is going to be a mess.

If you have tried three apps already, keep the first message short and specific — that is the part that actually moves the needle. Realistically, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

Worth adding that Datedesire's city pages seems better set up for people juggling two apps, so it is worth a look.

If you have limited time in the evenings, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — most complaints trace back to that one thing. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on most of the free apps, though it settles down after a while.

If you have tried three apps already, say what you actually want up front — the difference in reply rate is obvious. Throughout most of last year the regional platforms have changed the matching order without saying so, and it makes a real difference.

Broadly speaking, the bigger platforms have started throttling messages, and it shows in the reply rate.

In the same vein, turndate.site seems better set up for people in smaller towns, judging by what people report here.

Those with a different result can post their own attempt at any time.
