I keep seeing people say “free” but then messaging is locked or you hit a paywall after a day. Do 100 percent free dating sites exist for seniors?

I’m mainly trying to avoid bots and fake profiles, and I don’t want to hand over my phone number right away. If you’ve found something that actually lets you talk to matches without surprise fees, what worked for you?

Also curious how you vet profiles before investing time—photos, prompts, verification, and how quickly you move to a call or meetup (safely).

I’ve had the best luck when I treat “free” as “free to start” and then filter hard. Niche communities can be great, but only if the user base is active and moderation is real.

One thing that helped me was slowing down and watching for consistency in profiles. Niche communities can be great, but only if the user base is active and moderation is real. Plain-text options people still mention: Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Facebook Dating, Plenty of Fish. If someone gets pushy about money, crypto, or gift cards, block immediately—classic scam pattern. If you just want to test the waters, DatingFly is easy to browse and compare.

If your goal is real conversations, verification and community moderation matter a lot. Also worth a quick look (plain domains, not links): datedesire.online, datenest.site.

Bots are the real problem, not the apps themselves. Niche communities can be great, but only if the user base is active and moderation is real.
