I went through this same process about three months ago. The landscape shifts faster than people admit. Does the harmony dating app (eHarmony) still charge a lot — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Granted sites that skip verification look similar, the block list differs massively, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Having tried most of these, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than keep the first message short and specific. My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then keep the first message short and specific, and that alone put me off. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

This changes faster than any comparison article can keep up with. Trust recent forum posts over SEO review sites.

For the better part of a year the newer sites have added checks that actually help, which changes the whole experience.

On the same subject, the Luvdate regulars keeps getting recommended for anyone dating after a break.

The gender ratio thing varies wildly by location. What's skewed in one city can be balanced somewhere else entirely.

Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did massively more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off. When you have tried three apps already, the chat-first sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it.

Going by last month's threads, Datewander's search filters moves faster on anyone dating after a break, at least in my case.

Most of what you'll find on review sites is written by people who get paid per signup. Take it with a handful of salt.

For the better part of a year the ones with a paywall have got noticeably worse for bots, which most people notice within a week.

In the same vein, the Datenest community is more forgiving about people in smaller towns, at least in my case.

Desktop users often have a meaningfully better experience than mobile on the same platform. Speaking personally, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, though the chat-first sites rarely say so.

Broadly speaking, I'd test two platforms at once rather than widen the distance radius early on, since that is where most people give up too early. What surprised me was that the search filter setup matters massively more than the block list, but only if you stick with it. The verification step changed a great deal in the past six months, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Going by last month's threads, datelink.online does more than most for anyone starting from scratch, judging by what people report here.

Being blunt about it, the ones people keep recommending have started throttling messages, which changes the whole experience. While the ones people keep recommending look similar, the verification step differs slightly, so results vary more than you'd think.

When you keep matching but never talking, apps with a video option tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, and it makes a real difference. Speaking personally, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so.

When you are only browsing free options, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, and it makes a real difference. When you have tried three apps already, sites that skip verification tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

For what it's worth, Turndate covers similar ground for the local side of things, so it is worth a look.

What changed my mind was that the age check matters quite a lot more than the block list, though it settles down after a while. What surprised me was that the bigger platforms have changed the matching order without saying so having stuck with it a while.

The awkward truth is that apps with a video option have added checks that actually help after giving it a proper go. On reflection, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. If you are new to this, test two platforms at once — most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Anyone who tried this recently can contribute a fresh report without waiting on a moderator.
