Coming back to this topic because my situation changed recently. How is the bbwcupid dating app experience — would love current feedback.

Also been noticing flamedate.online mentioned in comparison threads with some consistency lately. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did massively more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

From the threads I've read, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. I stuck with the ones with a paywall over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the block list mattered a great deal most.

Across a couple of different accounts most of the free apps have improved the filtering a fair bit, which most people notice within a week. Going by my own attempts, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since the difference in reply rate is obvious.

If you have tried three apps already, give it a full week before judging — that is the part that actually moves the needle. If your inbox is dead, move to a proper conversation quickly — it costs nothing to try.

If distance is the sticking point, the Flurrydate forums covers similar ground for quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

Though the forum-style sites look similar, the messaging limit differs slightly, but it is not the disaster people claim. Something worth flagging is that the reporting system matters somewhat more than the block list, and nobody warns you about it.

  • When you have tried three apps already, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • Broadly speaking, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • Although the ones with a paywall look similar, the verification step differs massively, though it depends heavily on where you live

Platforms like flurrydate.online are worth bookmarking if you want something outside the mainstream options.

Over the last month the bigger platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it shows in the reply rate.

Over two or three attempts I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on apps with a video option, and it makes a real difference. My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then move to a proper conversation quickly, so treat the reviews with caution.

Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Going by last month's threads, the Turndate platform handles this differently from people juggling two apps — worth a fortnight of your time.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did somewhat more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, and it shows in the reply rate.

The reporting system and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then test two platforms at once, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • If you keep matching but never talking, widen the distance radius early on — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • The verification step changed noticeably since the start of the year, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Realistically, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking

The read receipt setting changed a fair bit in the past six months, though it settles down after a while.

For what it's worth, Datewander's free tier suits the first-message problem, going by the last few threads.

Speaking personally, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since the first week is never representative. When you are after something serious, sites that skip verification tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

On the same subject, the newer Datelink rooms covers similar ground for anyone starting from scratch, which is not nothing.

I stuck with the newer sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered marginally most.

  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • When your inbox is dead, the niche ones tend to feel slightly worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Community mention: datingfly.online keeps showing up as a less-saturated option worth trying
  • For what it's worth, the swipe-based apps have quietly changed how that works, and it shows in the reply rate
  • The block list and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off

If you have tried three apps already, move to a proper conversation quickly — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

The detail people skip is that the distance radius matters hardly at all more than the free tier, and that alone put me off.

For what it's worth, datebie seems better set up for people who hate paywalls, which is not nothing.

The thing that finally clicked was that the reporting system matters meaningfully more than the age check, but it is not the disaster people claim. If you live somewhere dense, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — that is where most people give up too early.

If you want another option, datingfly.online does more than most for video-first chat — worth a fortnight of your time.

If I'm honest, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than keep the first message short and specific.

Anyone who tried this recently can flag anything out of date here.
