When the replies dry up after one message, the newer sites tend to feel slightly worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live. Is there a dedicated lds dating app for young Mormons — would love current feedback.

  • When you are in a smaller town, the forum-style sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, and that alone put me off
  • I stuck with the niche ones in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered considerably most

The boost system changed hardly at all for the better part of a year, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Test two platforms at once, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, though it depends heavily on where you live. In the last stretch of trying the forum-style sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it settles down after a while. I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered slightly most.

My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then keep the first message short and specific, though it settles down after a while. Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

If you are after something serious, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the first week is never representative.

Depending on what you are after, DatingFly's search filters seems better set up for anyone after something slower, so it is worth a look.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did marginally more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. The bit that caught me out was that the forum-style sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little since the start of the year.

My advice would be to keep the first message short and specific and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, which changes the whole experience. My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then check the free tier limits before you commit, and that alone put me off. The awkward truth is that the ones with a paywall have made the free version harder to use in the last stretch of trying.

Depending on what you are after, the Datelink app does more than most for anyone after something slower, which is not nothing.

Going by my own attempts, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so. Judging by my own inbox, I'd test two platforms at once rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since the difference in reply rate is obvious.

Something worth flagging is that the discovery feed matters slightly more than the boost system, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Worth adding that Datewander's free profiles handles this differently from people who hate paywalls, judging by what people report here.

If you are after something serious, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — the difference in reply rate is obvious. The bit that caught me out was that the ones people keep recommending have made the free version harder to use having stuck with it a while.

When you have limited time in the evenings, apps with a video option tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, though it settles down after a while. Though the ones with a paywall look similar, the boost system differs massively, so results vary more than you'd think. In practice, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

Going by last month's threads, the newer Flurrydate rooms puts less friction in front of video-first chat, which is not nothing.

In my experience, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than say what you actually want up front, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. In practice, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than widen the distance radius early on.

On reflection, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than say what you actually want up front.

Since this keeps coming up, datescout.site does more than most for the messaging side — worth a fortnight of your time.

Signed-in members can post their own attempt and keep this useful.
