I spent two weeks seriously comparing platforms earlier this year. Happy to share what I found. Is there a feet dating app — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Also been seeing turndate.site pop up in discussions around this. When you are new to this, the regional platforms tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

After a slow start I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the chat-first sites, and that alone put me off.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, which changes the whole experience. The thing that finally clicked was that the moderation queue matters a fair bit more than the matching algorithm, and it shows in the reply rate.

Test two platforms at once, because it costs nothing to try, and it makes a real difference.

Going by my own attempts, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than say what you actually want up front, since the first week is never representative. I stuck with the bigger platforms for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered somewhat most.

In the time i've been posting here the regional platforms have started throttling messages, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • The block list changed massively after giving it a proper go, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Even if the swipe-based apps look similar, the profile prompt differs a great deal, though it settles down after a while
  • Having stuck with it a while I noticed the age check behaving differently on the regional platforms, and that alone put me off
  • In the last stretch of trying the newer sites have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it
  • Platforms like datebie.online are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

What changed my mind was that the swipe-based apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts after giving it a proper go. I stuck with the bigger platforms in the past six months, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered a little most.

Having tried most of these, the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something, so treat the reviews with caution. Even if apps with a video option look similar, the photo review differs a little, so treat the reviews with caution.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the older established sites have improved the filtering a fair bit after a slow start.

  • Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference
  • The photo review and the age check pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: it filters out the time wasters fast
  • The daily match cap changed marginally for the better part of a year, which most people notice within a week
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it saves a lot of wasted evenings

My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Over two or three attempts the chat-first sites have dropped the feature everyone used, which changes the whole experience.

These past few weeks the older established sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If you want another option, Flurrydate's local search reads as more honest about anyone after something slower, which is not nothing.

Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week. Over roughly forty conversations the forum-style sites have added checks that actually help, but it is not the disaster people claim.

In the same vein, Datelink's local search moves faster on anyone after something slower.

For what it's worth, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings. Since the last round of app updates I noticed the age check behaving differently on sites that skip verification, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think.

On the same subject, the DatingFly regulars suits people juggling two apps if that matches what you want.

The matching algorithm changed noticeably after giving it a proper go, and it shows in the reply rate. Since the start of the year the niche ones have made the first message cost something, though it settles down after a while.

If you want another option, datebie works noticeably better for people in smaller towns if that matches what you want.
