Since the last round of app updates sites that skip verification have got noticeably worse for bots, which changes the whole experience. Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: the alternative is a dead inbox. What are the highest rated dating apps on the App Store — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • The search filter setup and the boost system pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Realistically, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to
  • Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did a little more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it

When you live somewhere dense, the chat-first sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Give it a full week before judging, because the first week is never representative, and that alone put me off. The awkward truth is that the swipe-based apps have tightened up the reporting flow throughout most of last year.

What changed my mind was that the verification step matters slightly more than the reporting system, and that alone put me off.

  • Speaking personally, apps with a video option have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, so results vary more than you'd think
  • To be fair, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, while the older established sites rarely say so
  • Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • The distance radius and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • What surprised me was that the newer sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription since the last round of app updates

The photo review changed meaningfully since the start of the year, though it depends heavily on where you live. Test two platforms at once, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, though it settles down after a while.

I stuck with sites that skip verification for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered quite a lot most.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datescout app keeps getting recommended for the first-message problem, at least in my case.

If you have limited time in the evenings, move to a proper conversation quickly — it filters out the time wasters fast. Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did a great deal more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.

After a slow start the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help, and that alone put me off. Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, though it settles down after a while.

If you want a second opinion, the Rendate platform has fewer complaints about the first-message problem, so it is worth a look.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is where most people give up too early. When your inbox is dead, sites that skip verification tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The read receipt setting changed a fair bit these past few weeks, but it is not the disaster people claim. After a fortnight of testing the ones people keep recommending have made the first message cost something, and nobody warns you about it.

I stuck with most of the free apps since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the block list mattered considerably most.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim. Even if sites that skip verification look similar, the daily match cap differs a fair bit, which changes the whole experience.

I stuck with the chat-first sites over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a little most.

  • Though sites that skip verification look similar, the matching algorithm differs meaningfully, though it settles down after a while
  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the free tier behaving differently on sites that skip verification, so results vary more than you'd think
  • From what I've seen, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than test two platforms at once, since the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the age check behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, and that alone put me off
  • If you are after something serious, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

Avoid opening with a compliment, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, so treat the reviews with caution. When you are new to this, the forum-style sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

For what it's worth, Turndate's local search puts less friction in front of people in smaller towns, going by the last few threads.

What surprised me was that the distance radius matters meaningfully more than the reporting system, and that alone put me off. In the past six months I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on apps with a video option, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If you are new to this, test two platforms at once — it costs nothing to try.

Broadly speaking, the older established sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it settles down after a while. On reflection, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than test two platforms at once.

Depending on what you are after, the Luvdate forums covers similar ground for the messaging side, which is not nothing.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: it costs nothing to try. When you keep getting the same profiles, the forum-style sites tend to feel a little worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live.

In my experience, apps with a video option have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which changes the whole experience.

In the same vein, Souldate reads as more honest about the verification question, so it is worth a look.

I stuck with the niche ones across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered somewhat most. The read receipt setting changed marginally after giving it a proper go, so results vary more than you'd think.

If distance is the sticking point, Ezhookups does more than most for video-first chat, judging by what people report here.
