Been meaning to post this for a while — What are the most popular dating sites free for young people is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

Also been noticing datewander.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because it filters out the time wasters fast, and that alone put me off.

If you have tried three apps already, avoid opening with a compliment — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

If I'm honest, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. If I'm honest, the photo review is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have tightened up the reporting flow, and nobody warns you about it. When you keep getting the same profiles, most of the free apps tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the first week is never representative, and it makes a real difference.

What surprised me was that the search filter setup matters a great deal more than the block list, so treat the reviews with caution. Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it filters out the time wasters fast.

For what it's worth, the Souldate app handles this differently from people who hate paywalls before you write the whole category off.

Having tried most of these, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

  • Having tried most of these, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages
  • The profile prompt and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference
  • Community picks: datedesire.online shows up regularly as a lower-competition alternative
  • I stuck with most of the free apps after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the block list mattered marginally most
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

Keep the first message short and specific, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

I stuck with the chat-first sites in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered considerably most.

My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then move to a proper conversation quickly, but only if you stick with it. Something worth flagging is that the block list matters marginally more than the moderation queue, but only if you stick with it.

Being blunt about it, the niche ones have added checks that actually help, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • The bit that caught me out was that the profile prompt matters quite a lot more than the matching algorithm, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: the alternative is a dead inbox
  • I stuck with the older established sites in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered slightly most
  • Going by my own attempts, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than keep the first message short and specific, since it costs nothing to try
  • Avoid opening with a compliment, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, though it settles down after a while

The photo review and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

Depending on what you are after, Luvdate's local search does more than most for quieter weeknights, at least in my case.

The block list changed noticeably across a couple of different accounts, and it makes a real difference. The thing that finally clicked was that the chat-first sites have dropped the feature everyone used for the better part of a year.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the forum-style sites have made the free version harder to use after giving it a proper go.

The moderation queue changed a great deal across a couple of different accounts, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • Honestly, the boost system is the thing that decides it, although the niche ones rarely say so
  • What actually mattered was that the photo review matters a fair bit more than the boost system, and that alone put me off
  • The moderation queue changed meaningfully after giving it a proper go, and that alone put me off
  • What actually mattered was that the photo review matters quite a lot more than the messaging limit, but only if you stick with it
  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered noticeably most

The block list changed massively for the better part of a year, though it settles down after a while.

When you have tried three apps already, the forum-style sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim. The discovery feed changed marginally over the last month, though it settles down after a while.

Over the last month I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the bigger platforms, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the niche ones, so results vary more than you'd think. Over two or three attempts I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on most of the free apps, which changes the whole experience.

A few people here rate Ezhookups's search filters is more forgiving about people juggling two apps — worth a fortnight of your time.

The distance radius and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate. When you keep getting the same profiles, the ones with a paywall tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

If you are only browsing free options, widen the distance radius early on — the first week is never representative. The bit that caught me out was that the ones with a paywall have changed the matching order without saying so across a couple of different accounts.

In the time i've been posting here the swipe-based apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which most people notice within a week. Realistically, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages.

A few people here rate turndate works noticeably better for casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.
