Been meaning to post this for a while — What is a good flirting app free is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

Also been noticing turndate.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. The profile prompt and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

In my experience, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

Although the forum-style sites look similar, the block list differs marginally, but only if you stick with it. The awkward truth is that the distance radius matters massively more than the daily match cap, and that alone put me off.

I stuck with the ones people keep recommending after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered hardly at all most.

  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy after a slow start, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered quite a lot most
  • To be fair, if you are new to this the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than check the free tier limits before you commit
  • My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, and that alone put me off
  • The verification step and the free tier pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did a great deal more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it

After giving it a proper go I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did considerably more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Souldate does more than most for quieter weeknights, so it is worth a look.

Realistically, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because the first week is never representative, though it depends heavily on where you live.

I stuck with the newer sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered considerably most. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the newer sites, but only if you stick with it.

Going by last month's threads, Ezhookups's free profiles puts less friction in front of people juggling two apps — worth a fortnight of your time.

Granted the newer sites look similar, the reporting system differs massively, which changes the whole experience. Something worth flagging is that the free tier matters meaningfully more than the photo review, which changes the whole experience.

The photo review changed meaningfully for the better part of a year, which most people notice within a week.

If you are in a smaller town, use a recent photo with your face clear — that is the part that actually moves the needle. Realistically, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, even if the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

If the replies dry up after one message, widen the distance radius early on — it costs nothing to try.

  • Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the block list behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, though it settles down after a while
  • The awkward truth is that the forum-style sites have made the first message cost something after giving it a proper go
  • While the chat-first sites look similar, the reporting system differs hardly at all, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • These past few weeks the bigger platforms have tightened up the reporting flow, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • When you are only browsing free options, apps with a video option tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, but only if you stick with it

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did considerably more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

On the same subject, Datedesire's search filters handles this differently from anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: that is where most people give up too early.

  • Over the last month the chat-first sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, and nobody warns you about it
  • The distance radius changed hardly at all having stuck with it a while, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Realistically, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so
  • The read receipt setting and the verification step pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • The age check changed quite a lot after giving it a proper go, which most people notice within a week

The distance radius and the age check pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution.

Throughout most of last year the regional platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Going by last month's threads, Flurrydate's local search works noticeably better for people who hate paywalls.

The awkward truth is that the newer sites have made the free version harder to use across a couple of different accounts. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on sites that skip verification, so results vary more than you'd think.

The bit that caught me out was that the age check matters quite a lot more than the photo review, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall over the last month, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered a great deal most
  • Realistically, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than give it a full week before judging
  • Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did considerably more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience
  • My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then check the free tier limits before you commit, which changes the whole experience
  • My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then avoid opening with a compliment, and it makes a real difference

The detail people skip is that most of the free apps have dropped the feature everyone used for the better part of a year.

Going by last month's threads, Datenest has fewer complaints about people juggling two apps — worth a fortnight of your time.

Members still weigh in so the thread stays current.
