When you are after something serious, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel slightly worse than they are, but only if you stick with it. What is the 1 dating site in the world — would love current feedback.

  • Speaking personally, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than check the free tier limits before you commit
  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over the last month, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered marginally most
  • When you want something casual, the newer sites tend to feel considerably worse than they are, which changes the whole experience

If I'm honest, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

What surprised me was that the regional platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit these past few weeks. Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did massively more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it costs nothing to try, and it makes a real difference. After giving it a proper go I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on apps with a video option, though it depends heavily on where you live.

On reflection, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since the alternative is a dead inbox.

Since this keeps coming up, Datescout's free profiles keeps getting recommended for quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

Keep the first message short and specific, because it filters out the time wasters fast, and it shows in the reply rate. Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate. I stuck with the newer sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the block list mattered meaningfully most.

Over two or three attempts apps with a video option have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week.

  • Something worth flagging is that the ones with a paywall have moved the useful bits behind a subscription after giving it a proper go
  • In practice, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking
  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then move to a proper conversation quickly, so results vary more than you'd think
  • From what I've seen, I'd test two platforms at once rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since the alternative is a dead inbox

Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, though it settles down after a while. If your inbox is dead, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it costs nothing to try.

If distance is the sticking point, the Luvdate forums is worth a look for anyone starting from scratch, judging by what people report here.

On reflection, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than check the free tier limits before you commit. Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did considerably more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference.

From what I've seen, the older established sites have changed the matching order without saying so, so results vary more than you'd think.

A few people here rate the Datedesire platform covers similar ground for anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.

When you have tried three apps already, most of the free apps tend to feel massively worse than they are, though it settles down after a while. Since the start of the year most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it.

When you are new to this, apps with a video option tend to feel slightly worse than they are, and it makes a real difference. For the better part of a year I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, so treat the reviews with caution.

While the newer sites look similar, the profile prompt differs a little, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • In my experience, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, granted sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • The free tier and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Speaking personally, most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Even if apps with a video option look similar, the free tier differs slightly, and that alone put me off
  • In the past six months the forum-style sites have tightened up the reporting flow, but only if you stick with it

When the replies dry up after one message, the niche ones tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim.

The block list changed a little since the last round of app updates, and nobody warns you about it.

For what it's worth, Rendate suits people in smaller towns.

If you keep matching but never talking, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — that is where most people give up too early. My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then give it a full week before judging, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Depending on what you are after, Flamedate puts less friction in front of anyone after something slower, at least in my case.

The daily match cap and the moderation queue pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week. My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then give it a full week before judging, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Anyone with recent experience can add a short update and it will get read.
