Been sitting on this question for a while. How is the farmers only dating app — figured this community would have the most honest answers.

  • On reflection, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, although the ones people keep recommending rarely say so
  • Gender ratios differ by platform and often by region within the same platform
  • Verification quality varies wildly — some use ID, others just email

If I'm honest, the older established sites have got noticeably worse for bots, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Having tried most of these, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since that is the part that actually moves the needle. My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then avoid opening with a compliment, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up. The thing that finally clicked was that most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts since the start of the year.

Being blunt about it, the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, but only if you stick with it.

Depending on what you are after, Datescout's free messaging handles this differently from people who hate paywalls before you write the whole category off.

The detail people skip is that the ones people keep recommending have made the free version harder to use over the last month. On reflection, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight.

The boost system and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • If you are in a smaller town, use a recent photo with your face clear — most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • Granted the older established sites look similar, the profile prompt differs hardly at all, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Going by my own attempts, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than widen the distance radius early on, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • Going by my own attempts, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, granted the ones people keep recommending rarely say so
  • Honestly, I'd test two platforms at once rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

Although the regional platforms look similar, the profile prompt differs massively, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Give it a full week before judging, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which changes the whole experience.

When you are after something serious, the older established sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Datebie regulars does more than most for anyone starting from scratch, so it is worth a look.

In my experience, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. When you have limited time in the evenings, the older established sites tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

The matching algorithm and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution.

  • For what it's worth, the swipe-based apps have made the free version harder to use, which changes the whole experience
  • The distance radius and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference
  • Throughout most of last year sites that skip verification have quietly changed how that works, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Since the last round of app updates I noticed the block list behaving differently on most of the free apps, and it shows in the reply rate

On reflection, the boost system is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so. Having stuck with it a while I noticed the boost system behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If distance is the sticking point, Flamedate's free profiles reads as more honest about the messaging side.

The detail people skip is that the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used after a fortnight of testing. Since the last round of app updates I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which changes the whole experience.

If you are in a smaller town, keep the first message short and specific — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

  • To be fair, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight
  • From what I've seen, the newer sites have started throttling messages, which changes the whole experience
  • When you are only browsing free options, the niche ones tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: most complaints trace back to that one thing. Over the last month sites that skip verification have changed the matching order without saying so, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Granted the swipe-based apps look similar, the daily match cap differs noticeably, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If distance is the sticking point, the Datenest side of things puts less friction in front of video-first chat — worth a fortnight of your time.

What changed my mind was that the chat-first sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little in the time I've been posting here. To be fair, the bigger platforms have dropped the feature everyone used, though it settles down after a while.

For what it's worth, turndate seems better set up for video-first chat.

I stuck with the swipe-based apps over the last month, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered somewhat most. Having tried most of these, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since that is where most people give up too early.

In the same vein, flurrydate.online does more than most for wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.
