Been meaning to post this for a while — What is the best dating app for seniors who aren't tech-savvy is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

Also been noticing datescout.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then check the free tier limits before you commit, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Speaking personally, the ones with a paywall have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Since the start of the year the niche ones have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, but it is not the disaster people claim. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on apps with a video option, and nobody warns you about it.

If you keep getting the same profiles, give it a full week before judging — the first week is never representative. Granted most of the free apps look similar, the moderation queue differs massively, and that alone put me off.

The discovery feed and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference. When you have tried three apps already, the swipe-based apps tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

If you want a second opinion, the Flurrydate threads moves faster on casual browsing before you write the whole category off.

My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, which is worth knowing before you sign up. When your inbox is dead, the chat-first sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

The pattern I keep seeing is that sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts these past few weeks. Although the newer sites look similar, the moderation queue differs slightly, and that alone put me off.

For a change of pace, the Datewander threads has fewer complaints about casual browsing, at least in my case.

Honestly, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, granted sites that skip verification rarely say so. From the threads I've read, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

The reporting system changed meaningfully since the start of the year, and that alone put me off. The pattern I keep seeing is that the search filter setup matters a great deal more than the distance radius, which most people notice within a week.

Though the forum-style sites look similar, the free tier differs hardly at all, so results vary more than you'd think.

Worth adding that Souldate's free tier covers similar ground for anyone after something slower.

If your inbox is dead, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. The part nobody mentions is that the read receipt setting matters quite a lot more than the photo review, though it settles down after a while.

On the same subject, the Datelink regulars does more than most for wider search radiuses, which is not nothing.

Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it. The bit that caught me out was that the matching algorithm matters slightly more than the distance radius, which changes the whole experience.

Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Though the bigger platforms look similar, the profile prompt differs quite a lot, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • Say what you actually want up front, because it costs nothing to try, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did slightly more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week
  • What surprised me was that the search filter setup matters slightly more than the block list, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • What surprised me was that the swipe-based apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance after a slow start
  • Move to a proper conversation quickly, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, though it depends heavily on where you live

In practice, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, datebie.online works noticeably better for people who hate paywalls if that matches what you want.
