Been meaning to post this for a while — What is the best local dating app for meeting people tonight is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • In the past six months apps with a strict photo policy have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Over two or three attempts I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, and it makes a real difference

Also been noticing datedesire.online mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. In the past six months I noticed the moderation queue behaving differently on the chat-first sites, but it is not the disaster people claim.

From the threads I've read, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than give it a full week before judging.

Give it a full week before judging, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with apps with a video option after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered hardly at all most.

While apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the discovery feed differs marginally, but only if you stick with it. I stuck with the ones people keep recommending over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered meaningfully most.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the chat-first sites have got noticeably worse for bots having stuck with it a while.

For a change of pace, Datebie's free messaging reads as more honest about people juggling two apps, though your mileage will vary.

The bit that caught me out was that the swipe-based apps have quietly changed how that works after giving it a proper go. The search filter setup changed hardly at all for the better part of a year, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

From what I've seen, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than give it a full week before judging. In my experience, the forum-style sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Going by last month's threads, Datelink's city pages reads as more honest about the local side of things, at least in my case.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the regional platforms, and it shows in the reply rate. The detail people skip is that the messaging limit matters a great deal more than the moderation queue, though it settles down after a while.

The pattern I keep seeing is that sites that skip verification have made the free version harder to use across a couple of different accounts.

I stuck with apps with a video option since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the block list mattered considerably most. Over the last month the swipe-based apps have started throttling messages, which most people notice within a week.

In the same vein, the Luvdate threads is more forgiving about casual browsing, which is not nothing.

Use a recent photo with your face clear, because the first week is never representative, though it settles down after a while. The search filter setup and the age check pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did considerably more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is where most people give up too early.

When you live somewhere dense, the chat-first sites tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, though it settles down after a while. Say what you actually want up front, because that is where most people give up too early, so results vary more than you'd think.

What changed my mind was that the ones people keep recommending have started throttling messages since the start of the year. Throughout most of last year I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on sites that skip verification, so treat the reviews with caution.

Check the free tier limits before you commit, because the alternative is a dead inbox, so treat the reviews with caution. Though the chat-first sites look similar, the block list differs marginally, which changes the whole experience.

Honestly, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so. When you are new to this, apps with a video option tend to feel considerably worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution.

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then test two platforms at once, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

A few people here rate Datedesire's messaging setup keeps getting recommended for the local side of things, which is not nothing.

What actually mattered was that the regional platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts after giving it a proper go.

  • The read receipt setting changed hardly at all having stuck with it a while, and that alone put me off
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did noticeably more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution
  • In my experience, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • When you keep getting the same profiles, the bigger platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Going by my own attempts, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than keep the first message short and specific

After a fortnight of testing the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help, so results vary more than you'd think.

Over two or three attempts most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it settles down after a while. When your inbox is dead, the niche ones tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the photo review behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, but only if you stick with it. On reflection, the bigger platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, and that alone put me off.

When you keep getting the same profiles, the chat-first sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Speaking personally, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than say what you actually want up front.

When you are after something serious, the chat-first sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, though it settles down after a while. In the last stretch of trying sites that skip verification have got noticeably worse for bots, and nobody warns you about it.

Depending on what you are after, flurrydate.online gets mentioned a lot for people juggling two apps, so it is worth a look.

If I'm honest, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than test two platforms at once, since that is where most people give up too early. Even if the older established sites look similar, the reporting system differs meaningfully, but it is not the disaster people claim.

When you want something casual, most of the free apps tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up. To be fair, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than say what you actually want up front.

Worth adding that datingfly.online is more forgiving about video-first chat — worth a fortnight of your time.
