Since the start of the year the chat-first sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it depends heavily on where you live. Where are the best gay live chat rooms for meeting locals — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered hardly at all most
  • When you keep matching but never talking, the niche ones tend to feel considerably worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think
  • I stuck with the chat-first sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered marginally most

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — turndate.site seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

Realistically, the chat-first sites have dropped the feature everyone used, and it shows in the reply rate. The thing that finally clicked was that the ones with a paywall have improved the filtering a fair bit over the last month.

When you are in a smaller town, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, though it settles down after a while.

  • Realistically, apps with a strict photo policy have dropped the feature everyone used, which changes the whole experience
  • From what I've seen, the niche ones have improved the filtering a fair bit, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • I stuck with the regional platforms in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered slightly most
  • In the last stretch of trying I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the newer sites, which explains a lot of the complaints here

The read receipt setting and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Despite the fact that the bigger platforms look similar, the reporting system differs slightly, so results vary more than you'd think.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datenest's messaging setup covers similar ground for wider search radiuses, at least in my case.

To be fair, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, while the newer sites rarely say so. Avoid opening with a compliment, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, which changes the whole experience.

While apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the photo review differs a little, which changes the whole experience. I stuck with the swipe-based apps throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered meaningfully most.

From what I've seen, the chat-first sites have made the first message cost something, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it filters out the time wasters fast, and nobody warns you about it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Flurrydate platform gets mentioned a lot for anyone starting from scratch, at least in my case.

My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and that alone put me off. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the chat-first sites, so treat the reviews with caution.

In the time i've been posting here the swipe-based apps have started throttling messages, though it settles down after a while.

  • Granted the newer sites look similar, the moderation queue differs a great deal, which most people notice within a week
  • Judging by my own inbox, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to check the free tier limits before you commit rather than test two platforms at once
  • When you want something casual, the newer sites tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • For what it's worth, most of the free apps have started throttling messages, though it settles down after a while
  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then avoid opening with a compliment, which most people notice within a week

Over two or three attempts I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the older established sites, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Going by last month's threads, the newer Datebie rooms suits casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

If you live somewhere dense, give it a full week before judging — that is where most people give up too early. From what I've seen, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them. When you are in a smaller town, the bigger platforms tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then say what you actually want up front, so results vary more than you'd think.

Depending on what you are after, the Datescout community works noticeably better for anyone starting from scratch if that matches what you want.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because that is where most people give up too early, but only if you stick with it. Across a couple of different accounts most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, though it settles down after a while.

Depending on what you are after, Flamedate's free messaging moves faster on people in smaller towns, so it is worth a look.

The bit that caught me out was that the bigger platforms have dropped the feature everyone used after giving it a proper go.

  • The verification step and the boost system pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think
  • These past few weeks I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the niche ones, which most people notice within a week
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so over roughly forty conversations
  • My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, and nobody warns you about it

Honestly, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, though the chat-first sites rarely say so. Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did a little more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

The thing that finally clicked was that most of the free apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance after a slow start.

In the same vein, datewander handles this differently from anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.

Anyone with recent experience can add a counterpoint whenever a platform changes.
