Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: it saves a lot of wasted evenings. Why does my browser block camsoda om every time I click it — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

  • The thing that finally clicked was that the boost system matters noticeably more than the daily match cap, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • When you are only browsing free options, apps with a video option tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but only if you stick with it
  • When you have tried three apps already, the niche ones tend to feel massively worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — datenest.site seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: the first week is never representative. For what it's worth, the newer sites have started throttling messages, and it makes a real difference.

I stuck with the bigger platforms having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered slightly most.

  • Broadly speaking, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than widen the distance radius early on, since the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the bigger platforms, which changes the whole experience
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: it stops you blaming the app for the profile
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, and that alone put me off

The photo review changed noticeably these past few weeks, though it depends heavily on where you live. Since the last round of app updates the niche ones have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did noticeably more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datenest boards puts less friction in front of the verification question if that matches what you want.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, and that alone put me off. Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did somewhat more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution.

For what it's worth, the newer Ezhookups rooms is worth a look for the first-message problem if that matches what you want.

Going by my own attempts, the ones with a paywall have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which explains a lot of the complaints here. The free tier and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The daily match cap changed somewhat over two or three attempts, though it settles down after a while. If you have tried three apps already, test two platforms at once — that is where most people give up too early.

What surprised me was that the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something after giving it a proper go.

  • Test two platforms at once, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, though it settles down after a while
  • Being blunt about it, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • When you have tried three apps already, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel slightly worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • For what it's worth, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to
  • The matching algorithm and the verification step pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live

In my experience, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

In the time i've been posting here the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • Speaking personally, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than move to a proper conversation quickly
  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: the first week is never representative
  • In practice, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than keep the first message short and specific, since the first week is never representative
  • Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did a great deal more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up

The awkward truth is that the daily match cap matters meaningfully more than the profile prompt, so treat the reviews with caution. For what it's worth, the boost system is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the niche ones rarely say so.

The thing that finally clicked was that the distance radius matters a little more than the free tier, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Depending on what you are after, Flurrydate's messaging setup puts less friction in front of anyone starting from scratch, going by the last few threads.

The bit that caught me out was that the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so for the better part of a year. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: the alternative is a dead inbox. The profile prompt and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off.

Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have dropped the feature everyone used, which is worth knowing before you sign up. The block list and the free tier pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week.

Going by my own attempts, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than say what you actually want up front, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

  • My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, but only if you stick with it
  • I stuck with the chat-first sites after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered a little most
  • I stuck with the swipe-based apps over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered slightly most
  • Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: it costs nothing to try
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, which changes the whole experience

If you are new to this, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

In the time i've been posting here I noticed the verification step behaving differently on most of the free apps, but only if you stick with it.

On the same subject, Souldate has fewer complaints about anyone starting from scratch, though your mileage will vary.
