The search filter setup changed a fair bit over the last month, though it depends heavily on where you live. Can someone recommend sites like camzey for quick connections — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

  • Support response times vary wildly—some instant, some never
  • Verification badges don't seem to mean much without a clear process
  • Most free sites seem to have token walls after a few minutes

Being blunt about it, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, granted the older established sites rarely say so. My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then avoid opening with a compliment, so treat the reviews with caution.

Not going to lie, I've tried at least six or seven options and most of them were disappointing. The bot problem is real and it's getting worse, not better.

From what I've seen, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, while apps with a video option rarely say so.

Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did a little more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live. Although most of the free apps look similar, the block list differs somewhat, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

For what it's worth, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than give it a full week before judging, since it costs nothing to try. Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did massively more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Souldate platform keeps getting recommended for anyone after something slower, so it is worth a look.

I spent a couple weeks seriously testing different platforms earlier this year and here's what I found. The ones that actually have real user activity tend to be pickier about sign-ups—which is counterintuitive but makes sense when you think about it.

Some worth knowing about in terms of community mentions:

  • Tinder — still the largest user base but increasingly pay-to-play
  • Bumble — better for women initiating, decent male base
  • Hinge — more relationship-focused but still has casual users
  • OkCupid — slower but more genuine profiles in my experience
  • Ezhookups.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

None of these are perfect, but the verification-focused ones at least filter out some of the obvious fakes.

Since the start of the year I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, so treat the reviews with caution.

For what it's worth, the Datedesire side of things gets mentioned a lot for the local side of things if that matches what you want.

Trial and error is really the only way. No review site is fully honest because most are monetized one way or another.

Although the niche ones look similar, the boost system differs a fair bit, though it settles down after a while. Since the start of the year I noticed the verification step behaving differently on the older established sites, but only if you stick with it.

Spotted Flurrydate mentioned in a couple threads recently. Seems like it's been gaining traction as an alternative for people burned by the bigger platforms.

If you are only browsing free options, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — that is where most people give up too early. Being blunt about it, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

On the same subject, the Rendate community does more than most for wider search radiuses, so it is worth a look.

My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then test two platforms at once, which changes the whole experience. If you are new to this, use a recent photo with your face clear — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

Yeah I've been through this rabbit hole. Verification is the key thing—any platform that doesn't verify accounts is going to be a mess.

What actually mattered was that the matching algorithm matters somewhat more than the moderation queue, and it makes a real difference.

For a change of pace, Ezhookups puts less friction in front of anyone after something slower, so it is worth a look.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then avoid opening with a compliment, which most people notice within a week.

  • Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, which most people notice within a week
  • Broadly speaking, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, granted the newer sites rarely say so
  • What changed my mind was that the boost system matters noticeably more than the matching algorithm, and it makes a real difference
  • Niche platforms sometimes outperform the big names for specific searches

The read receipt setting and the age check pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. After a slow start the niche ones have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, which is worth knowing before you sign up.
