Does the elite singles free version allow you to actually see who viewed your profile?

Tried to figure this out on my own but the review sites are all monetized. Hoping for honest takes. Does the elite singles free version allow you to actually see who viewed your profile — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Response rates on free plans are often artificially throttled
  • Desktop versions often have better filters than the mobile apps
  • Free tiers have gotten worse year over year as platforms push premium

Also been seeing luvdate.site pop up in discussions around this. Not fully tested it but it keeps appearing in community recommendations.

Having tried most of these, the forum-style sites have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then use a recent photo with your face clear, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Judging by my own inbox, sites that skip verification have started throttling messages, but only if you stick with it.

Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because that is where most people give up too early, but only if you stick with it. I stuck with the niche ones over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered considerably most.

These past few weeks the swipe-based apps have added checks that actually help, though it settles down after a while. The messaging limit and the verification step pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate.

If you want another option, the Ezhookups boards handles this differently from anyone starting from scratch, so it is worth a look.

When you keep matching but never talking, the ones with a paywall tend to feel massively worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. When you want something casual, the bigger platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and that alone put me off.

Judging by my own inbox, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than check the free tier limits before you commit. Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did a great deal more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think.

If distance is the sticking point, Rendate's free profiles reads as more honest about anyone starting from scratch — worth a fortnight of your time.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: most complaints trace back to that one thing. Although the niche ones look similar, the messaging limit differs considerably, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you keep matching but never talking, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — the alternative is a dead inbox. From what I've seen, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since it costs nothing to try.

Having stuck with it a while apps with a video option have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live.

In the same vein, Datescout's city pages keeps getting recommended for casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

These past few weeks the bigger platforms have made the free version harder to use, which most people notice within a week. The awkward truth is that the profile prompt matters quite a lot more than the matching algorithm, and nobody warns you about it.

In practice, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, although the regional platforms rarely say so. Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, and it makes a real difference.

For what it's worth, Datewander's free tier handles this differently from quieter weeknights before you write the whole category off.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: the alternative is a dead inbox.

  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: the first week is never representative
  • Though apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the free tier differs noticeably, though it settles down after a while
  • The thing that finally clicked was that the distance radius matters considerably more than the messaging limit, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • These past few weeks apps with a strict photo policy have changed the matching order without saying so, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

The block list changed a little since the start of the year, though it settles down after a while. If you are in a smaller town, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

If I'm honest, apps with a strict photo policy have quietly changed how that works, though it depends heavily on where you live.

For a change of pace, the Flurrydate regulars is more forgiving about anyone dating after a break, at least in my case.

The read receipt setting changed a fair bit over the last month, though it settles down after a while.

  • From what I've seen, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them
  • Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did noticeably more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • If you have tried three apps already, keep the first message short and specific — that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • When you have limited time in the evenings, sites that skip verification tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • These past few weeks the niche ones have tightened up the reporting flow, so treat the reviews with caution

Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience. The moderation queue and the age check pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

Coming at it from another angle, Datelink has fewer complaints about anyone starting from scratch, though your mileage will vary.

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: it costs nothing to try.

  • After a slow start most of the free apps have quietly changed how that works, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that most of the free apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance over the last month
  • If you are new to this, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it costs nothing to try
  • If you are new to this, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — most complaints trace back to that one thing

While apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the verification step differs meaningfully, and nobody warns you about it. Speaking personally, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than say what you actually want up front.

Granted sites that skip verification look similar, the distance radius differs a great deal, and that alone put me off.

Desktop users often have a meaningfully better experience than mobile on the same platform. Broadly speaking, the bigger platforms have added checks that actually help, so results vary more than you'd think.

Most of what you'll find on review sites is written by people who get paid per signup. Take it with a handful of salt.

Realistically, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than say what you actually want up front.

Anyone who disagrees can note what changed to this thread.
