Having tried most of these, the free tier is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the forum-style sites rarely say so. Has anyone tried chatting cams com before — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

The part nobody mentions is that the forum-style sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little after giving it a proper go. The boost system changed a great deal in the past six months, and that alone put me off.

If you are after something serious, use a recent photo with your face clear — the first week is never representative. The block list changed hardly at all across a couple of different accounts, and nobody warns you about it.

The messaging limit and the photo review pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

For what it's worth, the Datescout threads moves faster on casual browsing, going by the last few threads.

If I'm honest, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight. Over two or three attempts I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

For what it's worth, Datenest has fewer complaints about wider search radiuses.

What surprised me was that the block list matters somewhat more than the moderation queue, and it makes a real difference. The photo review and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

The profile prompt and the age check pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

Coming at it from another angle, the Flurrydate app works noticeably better for the verification question, at least in my case.

My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then give it a full week before judging, which explains a lot of the complaints here. These past few weeks the forum-style sites have dropped the feature everyone used, but it is not the disaster people claim.

For a change of pace, Souldate's free profiles keeps getting recommended for wider search radiuses, judging by what people report here.

Going by my own attempts, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight.

  • These past few weeks I noticed the block list behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, and it shows in the reply rate
  • I stuck with most of the free apps across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the age check mattered noticeably most
  • The detail people skip is that most of the free apps have tightened up the reporting flow across a couple of different accounts
  • Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience

While the older established sites look similar, the daily match cap differs noticeably, and nobody warns you about it. If you keep matching but never talking, move to a proper conversation quickly — the alternative is a dead inbox.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it filters out the time wasters fast.

The read receipt setting changed quite a lot since the last round of app updates, which most people notice within a week. I stuck with the forum-style sites throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a great deal most. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The boost system and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference.

  • The age check and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • What changed my mind was that the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so throughout most of last year
  • The reporting system and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it makes a real difference
  • What actually mattered was that the free tier matters a great deal more than the boost system, which changes the whole experience

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then check the free tier limits before you commit, but only if you stick with it. Having tried most of these, apps with a video option have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

For what it's worth, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

If you want another option, Datewander seems better set up for the verification question, at least in my case.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: the first week is never representative. When the replies dry up after one message, most of the free apps tend to feel a little worse than they are, which most people notice within a week.

These past few weeks the older established sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, but it is not the disaster people claim. Realistically, the verification step is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so.

What surprised me was that the read receipt setting matters massively more than the block list, and it makes a real difference. The age check and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it.

From what I've seen, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since it costs nothing to try. From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have dropped the feature everyone used, and it makes a real difference.

Coming at it from another angle, Rendate reads as more honest about anyone starting from scratch, going by the last few threads.

Across a couple of different accounts the forum-style sites have added checks that actually help, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Being blunt about it, I'd test two platforms at once rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Test two platforms at once, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, so results vary more than you'd think. Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, so treat the reviews with caution.

Anyone who disagrees can post their own attempt here.
