Has anyone tried the tryst dating app?

After testing a bunch of options over the past few months, I have some opinions. The tl;dr: most free tiers are deliberately crippled. Has anyone tried the tryst dating app — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • Desktop versions often have better filters than the mobile apps
  • Profile quality varies dramatically by age group and location
  • Response rates on free plans are often artificially throttled

When you are only browsing free options, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution.

My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then move to a proper conversation quickly, but only if you stick with it. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did marginally more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Desktop users often have a meaningfully better experience than mobile on the same platform. If you have limited time in the evenings, widen the distance radius early on — it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

In the same vein, Datelink's free tier suits people juggling two apps.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, which changes the whole experience. While the newer sites look similar, the free tier differs a fair bit, and nobody warns you about it.

Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim. Move to a proper conversation quickly, because it filters out the time wasters fast, but it is not the disaster people claim.

For a change of pace, Ezhookups's free profiles covers similar ground for quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it costs nothing to try. The read receipt setting and the age check pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

In the time i've been posting here the swipe-based apps have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • I stuck with apps with a video option after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the verification step mattered hardly at all most
  • Honestly, the profile prompt is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the regional platforms rarely say so
  • If your inbox is dead, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — it filters out the time wasters fast
  • When you want something casual, the niche ones tend to feel marginally worse than they are, which changes the whole experience
  • Platforms like luvdate.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

The detail people skip is that the distance radius matters slightly more than the discovery feed, but it is not the disaster people claim. The age check changed a great deal over roughly forty conversations, but it is not the disaster people claim.

The part nobody mentions is that the verification step matters somewhat more than the free tier, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Asked myself the same thing last month. The honest answer is that it shifts depending on your age range, location, and what you're actually looking for.

Over two or three attempts sites that skip verification have changed the matching order without saying so, so treat the reviews with caution. Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The gender ratio thing varies wildly by location. What's skewed in one city can be balanced somewhere else entirely.

For what it's worth, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, granted the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datebie forums handles this differently from the first-message problem, which is not nothing.

After a slow start sites that skip verification have added checks that actually help, which changes the whole experience. Something worth flagging is that the bigger platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance across a couple of different accounts.

I stuck with the swipe-based apps after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered hardly at all most. From what I've seen, most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, and that alone put me off.

In the time i've been posting here the bigger platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but it is not the disaster people claim. From the threads I've read, the regional platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and nobody warns you about it.

Over roughly forty conversations most of the free apps have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it costs nothing to try.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did a little more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want another option, Luvdate reads as more honest about people juggling two apps, going by the last few threads.

Anyone who tried this recently can contribute a fresh report in the replies.
