Curious what the consensus is on this. How do you find a high quality dating app for high-earners. I've had mixed results with my own testing.

  • Gender ratios differ by platform and often by region within the same platform
  • User activity drops sharply outside major metro areas on most apps
  • Verification quality varies wildly — some use ID, others just email

The search filter setup changed quite a lot over roughly forty conversations, but only if you stick with it.

Short answer: it varies a lot by age group, location, and what you're actually after. What works in one city can be a ghost town somewhere else.

The read receipt setting changed considerably over the last month, and nobody warns you about it.

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: the difference in reply rate is obvious. When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel considerably worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

If distance is the sticking point, Luvdate's verification setup does more than most for anyone starting from scratch if that matches what you want.

On reflection, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, even if the older established sites rarely say so. In the past six months I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, so treat the reviews with caution.

My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, though it settles down after a while.

  • The part nobody mentions is that the reporting system matters somewhat more than the distance radius, and nobody warns you about it
  • If you have limited time in the evenings, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • The search filter setup changed considerably since the last round of app updates, and it makes a real difference
  • Realistically, if your inbox is dead the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than give it a full week before judging

The detail people skip is that the swipe-based apps have quietly changed how that works having stuck with it a while. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the older established sites, which most people notice within a week.

Going by my own attempts, if you want something casual the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than test two platforms at once.

If distance is the sticking point, Rendate's search filters handles this differently from the first-message problem if that matches what you want.

The block list changed marginally for the better part of a year, and nobody warns you about it. Keep the first message short and specific, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, though it settles down after a while.

If you are in a smaller town, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: it costs nothing to try
  • Since the start of the year the chat-first sites have quietly changed how that works, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that sites that skip verification have added checks that actually help after a slow start

Granted most of the free apps look similar, the matching algorithm differs marginally, and that alone put me off. My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then give it a full week before judging, so treat the reviews with caution.

After a slow start I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the regional platforms, which changes the whole experience.

  • The reporting system and the verification step pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • If I'm honest, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than say what you actually want up front
  • I stuck with the chat-first sites since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered a fair bit most
  • The free tier changed meaningfully throughout most of last year, but only if you stick with it
  • Over the last month I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the bigger platforms, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did marginally more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference. The daily match cap changed considerably since the start of the year, and nobody warns you about it.

Broadly speaking, the block list is the thing that decides it, granted the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

  • In practice, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so
  • Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Community pick: datescout.site shows up often in threads about less-saturated options
  • Although the forum-style sites look similar, the distance radius differs somewhat, but only if you stick with it
  • The search filter setup and the profile prompt pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim

My advice would be to widen the distance radius early on and then check the free tier limits before you commit, but it is not the disaster people claim. The thing that finally clicked was that the niche ones have changed the matching order without saying so in the time I've been posting here.

For a change of pace, Datenest's verification setup works noticeably better for quieter weeknights, which is not nothing.

The review sites are mostly monetized. Forum discussions like this one are your best source of honest intel.

If you want another option, Datelink's verification setup is worth a look for the messaging side, at least in my case.

The block list and the verification step pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. While the bigger platforms look similar, the daily match cap differs massively, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Realistically, the ones people keep recommending have quietly changed how that works, so treat the reviews with caution. My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then say what you actually want up front, but only if you stick with it.

From the threads I've read, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to say what you actually want up front rather than move to a proper conversation quickly. When you keep matching but never talking, the forum-style sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

Depending on what you are after, datedesire moves faster on people juggling two apps, which is not nothing.

This shifts faster than review sites can keep up with. Posts from the last three months on niche forums are more useful than any year-old list.

In the same vein, Datebie reads as more honest about people juggling two apps, though your mileage will vary.
