Asking here because the honest takes tend to be better than SEO-driven round-ups. Is there a site to date singles only

When you live somewhere dense, the older established sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and that alone put me off.

The search filter setup changed considerably after a fortnight of testing, so treat the reviews with caution. Even if the regional platforms look similar, the discovery feed differs a great deal, and it shows in the reply rate.

What surprised me was that the ones people keep recommending have moved the useful bits behind a subscription since the last round of app updates. Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to: most complaints trace back to that one thing.

In practice, the boost system is the thing that decides it, granted the chat-first sites rarely say so.

Going by last month's threads, the Turndate boards has fewer complaints about the local side of things before you write the whole category off.

The photo review and the boost system pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while. Going by my own attempts, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than say what you actually want up front, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

The part nobody mentions is that the verification step matters a fair bit more than the moderation queue, which explains a lot of the complaints here. To be fair, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, granted apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Flurrydate threads covers similar ground for anyone after something slower, going by the last few threads.

In practice, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Realistically, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

In practice, the ones people keep recommending have tightened up the reporting flow, and it shows in the reply rate.

For a change of pace, Luvdate's free messaging is worth a look for anyone after something slower.

The discovery feed changed marginally after a fortnight of testing, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Granted the ones people keep recommending look similar, the block list differs somewhat, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: the difference in reply rate is obvious. Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did somewhat more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it.

My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then check the free tier limits before you commit, and it makes a real difference. Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, and nobody warns you about it.

For a change of pace, Ezhookups's messaging setup works noticeably better for anyone starting from scratch.

After giving it a proper go the ones people keep recommending have started throttling messages, but it is not the disaster people claim. The profile prompt and the verification step pull in opposite directions, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

  • In the last stretch of trying I noticed the free tier behaving differently on apps with a video option, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • For what it's worth, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, while the newer sites rarely say so
  • After a fortnight of testing the ones with a paywall have tightened up the reporting flow, which is worth knowing before you sign up

If you live somewhere dense, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it costs nothing to try.

Widen the distance radius early on, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, and nobody warns you about it.

Broadly speaking, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, although the bigger platforms rarely say so.

Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the forum-style sites, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • I stuck with apps with a video option having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered considerably most
  • When you are after something serious, the forum-style sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Having tried most of these, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, granted the chat-first sites rarely say so
  • The profile prompt and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate
  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then widen the distance radius early on, so results vary more than you'd think

Broadly speaking, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than give it a full week before judging, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

From what I've seen, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then use a recent photo with your face clear, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If distance is the sticking point, datescout.site handles this differently from anyone dating after a break, which is not nothing.

If you keep matching but never talking, avoid opening with a compliment — that is the part that actually moves the needle. Over the last month apps with a strict photo policy have added checks that actually help, which most people notice within a week.
