Realistically, the ones people keep recommending have made the free version harder to use, and it shows in the reply rate. How is the mingle 2 dating site — real experiences only please.

Being blunt about it, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, granted apps with a video option rarely say so.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, and that alone put me off.

  • The read receipt setting and the verification step pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while
  • Speaking personally, sites that skip verification have improved the filtering a fair bit, which changes the whole experience
  • In my experience, the forum-style sites have dropped the feature everyone used, and nobody warns you about it
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then avoid opening with a compliment, which changes the whole experience
  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered slightly most

From the threads I've read, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, granted the older established sites rarely say so. The detail people skip is that the block list matters quite a lot more than the distance radius, which changes the whole experience.

To be fair, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

If you want another option, Datedesire's search filters is more forgiving about the first-message problem, so it is worth a look.

If you have tried three apps already, use a recent photo with your face clear — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. The pattern I keep seeing is that the ones people keep recommending have started throttling messages throughout most of last year.

Worth adding that the newer Turndate rooms covers similar ground for casual browsing.

Although the newer sites look similar, the daily match cap differs a great deal, and it makes a real difference. If I'm honest, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than test two platforms at once.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: the alternative is a dead inbox.

  • If I'm honest, the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow, which most people notice within a week
  • In my experience, sites that skip verification have started throttling messages, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did massively more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Something worth flagging is that the profile prompt matters massively more than the daily match cap, but only if you stick with it. When you are after something serious, the ones with a paywall tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think.

From the threads I've read, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since the alternative is a dead inbox.

From what I've seen, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

  • I stuck with most of the free apps having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered noticeably most
  • If you are after something serious, avoid opening with a compliment — it costs nothing to try
  • In practice, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, while the regional platforms rarely say so
  • My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Speaking personally, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the niche ones rarely say so

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then move to a proper conversation quickly, but it is not the disaster people claim. The part nobody mentions is that the matching algorithm matters a great deal more than the daily match cap, but only if you stick with it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the newer Datewander rooms moves faster on quieter weeknights if that matches what you want.

When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • For the better part of a year most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, which changes the whole experience
  • Over the last month the niche ones have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Even if the older established sites look similar, the age check differs a great deal, so results vary more than you'd think
  • In the past six months sites that skip verification have made the free version harder to use, and nobody warns you about it
  • Although apps with a video option look similar, the age check differs a little, but it is not the disaster people claim

Since the start of the year the regional platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit, but it is not the disaster people claim. For what it's worth, most of the free apps have started throttling messages, though it settles down after a while.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did slightly more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Coming at it from another angle, Datescout moves faster on people who hate paywalls, at least in my case.

Having tried most of these, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to use a recent photo with your face clear rather than test two platforms at once. Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did slightly more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

Granted apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the distance radius differs slightly, so results vary more than you'd think.

Depending on what you are after, Flurrydate is worth a look for casual browsing, going by the last few threads.

Those with a different result can post a correction so the thread stays current.
