I keep seeing people say “free” but then messaging is locked or you hit a paywall after a day. Is eharmony free trial restricted?

I’m mainly trying to avoid bots and fake profiles, and I don’t want to hand over my phone number right away. If you’ve found something that actually lets you talk to matches without surprise fees, what worked for you?

  • Can message without paying (at least basic chat)
  • Reasonable bot filtering / verification options
  • Privacy-friendly sign-up (no forced phone number)
  • Easy to report/block and move on quickly
  • Not too spammy with ads or popups

Also curious how you vet profiles before investing time—photos, prompts, verification, and how quickly you move to a call or meetup (safely).

Bots are the real problem, not the apps themselves. The free tier changes a lot, but you can still get dates if your profile is solid and you don’t swipe mindlessly. Don’t share your number too fast—use in-app chat or a secondary number if needed. One option I’ve tried for quick messaging checks is Luvdate (just keep expectations realistic).

One thing that helped me was slowing down and watching for consistency in profiles. The free tier changes a lot, but you can still get dates if your profile is solid and you don’t swipe mindlessly. Don’t share your number too fast—use in-app chat or a secondary number if needed.

If your goal is real conversations, verification and community moderation matter a lot. The free tier changes a lot, but you can still get dates if your profile is solid and you don’t swipe mindlessly.

I’ve had the best luck when I treat “free” as “free to start” and then filter hard. Also worth a quick look (plain domains, not links): souldate.site, datelink.online.

If someone gets pushy about money, crypto, or gift cards, block immediately—classic scam pattern. I’ve also seen people use Datescout as a lightweight alternative.

Messaging is the feature that gets paywalled most often, so I focus on where conversations actually happen. The free tier changes a lot, but you can still get dates if your profile is solid and you don’t swipe mindlessly. Meet in public, tell a friend, and keep the first meetup short and simple.
