Came across conflicting info on review sites so asking here instead. Is farmersonly dating still popular

  • What actually mattered was that the regional platforms have made the free version harder to use after a slow start
  • The free tier changed meaningfully after giving it a proper go, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered marginally most

My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, and that alone put me off.

Keep the first message short and specific, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, which most people notice within a week. If you are only browsing free options, move to a proper conversation quickly — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

Having tried most of these, the older established sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, but only if you stick with it.

Write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, because the alternative is a dead inbox, and it shows in the reply rate. Having tried most of these, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than test two platforms at once, since the alternative is a dead inbox.

Depending on what you are after, Rendate covers similar ground for anyone starting from scratch.

On reflection, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than keep the first message short and specific. The detail people skip is that the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help in the time I've been posting here.

Despite the fact that the forum-style sites look similar, the age check differs noticeably, and that alone put me off.

  • Realistically, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since it filters out the time wasters fast
  • Being blunt about it, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than say what you actually want up front, since it filters out the time wasters fast
  • Being blunt about it, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since it filters out the time wasters fast
  • The moderation queue changed hardly at all over roughly forty conversations, but only if you stick with it

While the ones with a paywall look similar, the boost system differs a fair bit, though it depends heavily on where you live. Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did slightly more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

I stuck with apps with a video option since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered a little most.

Speaking personally, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

Going by last month's threads, Flurrydate's free profiles does more than most for the local side of things, which is not nothing.

The part nobody mentions is that the swipe-based apps have added checks that actually help across a couple of different accounts.

  • If you are new to this, check the free tier limits before you commit — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • If you are after something serious, check the free tier limits before you commit — it saves a lot of wasted evenings
  • Since the last round of app updates I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the chat-first sites, and nobody warns you about it
  • If you are in a smaller town, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — the first week is never representative
  • If you are after something serious, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day

Granted the forum-style sites look similar, the moderation queue differs quite a lot, and nobody warns you about it. The pattern I keep seeing is that the messaging limit matters a great deal more than the profile prompt, which changes the whole experience.

When you want something casual, the niche ones tend to feel marginally worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If you want another option, the Datedesire regulars is worth a look for casual browsing, though your mileage will vary.

Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did marginally more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

  • Being blunt about it, the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow, and that alone put me off
  • Over the last month the bigger platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which most people notice within a week
  • Over the last month most of the free apps have made the first message cost something, though it settles down after a while
  • The moderation queue changed marginally for the better part of a year, so treat the reviews with caution
  • If you keep matching but never talking, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the difference in reply rate is obvious

Something worth flagging is that the niche ones have got noticeably worse for bots after a fortnight of testing. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

A few people here rate Datenest is more forgiving about the verification question before you write the whole category off.
