Is it actually possible to find hookups on hinge or is it too serious?

The block list changed considerably since the start of the year, but only if you stick with it. Is it actually possible to find hookups on hinge or is it too serious — real experiences only please.

Having tried most of these, the older established sites have made the free version harder to use, which most people notice within a week.

I stuck with the newer sites since the start of the year, and the honest result was that the read receipt setting mattered considerably most.

  • Speaking personally, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • If you have tried three apps already, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • What actually mattered was that most of the free apps have improved the filtering a fair bit after a slow start
  • Having tried most of these, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • If I'm honest, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile

The distance radius changed massively after a slow start, and it shows in the reply rate. Keep the first message short and specific, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, and it makes a real difference.

For a change of pace, Turndate's local search works noticeably better for the local side of things — worth a fortnight of your time.

In the past six months I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the forum-style sites, though it depends heavily on where you live. Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did massively more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

I stuck with apps with a video option since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered quite a lot most. The matching algorithm and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Broadly speaking, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: it costs nothing to try.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Flurrydate's verification setup reads as more honest about quieter weeknights.

Something worth flagging is that the chat-first sites have tightened up the reporting flow in the last stretch of trying. Keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, but only if you stick with it.

What actually mattered was that the free tier matters considerably more than the daily match cap, and nobody warns you about it.

  • Something worth flagging is that the daily match cap matters a fair bit more than the reporting system, and that alone put me off
  • In practice, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than move to a proper conversation quickly
  • I stuck with the ones with a paywall after a slow start, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered hardly at all most
  • Platforms like souldate.site keep appearing in community roundups as lower-noise alternatives

Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did massively more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution. My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, which most people notice within a week.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the newer Datescout rooms is worth a look for the local side of things, at least in my case.

Over two or three attempts the bigger platforms have quietly changed how that works, and it shows in the reply rate. The awkward truth is that the profile prompt matters a fair bit more than the age check, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The messaging limit changed a little having stuck with it a while, and it makes a real difference.

  • When you are new to this, the bigger platforms tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is the part that actually moves the needle
  • The verification step changed hardly at all over roughly forty conversations, and that alone put me off
  • I stuck with the swipe-based apps after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered hardly at all most

Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did slightly more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

If distance is the sticking point, ezhookups puts less friction in front of quieter weeknights, at least in my case.

The bit that caught me out was that the discovery feed matters somewhat more than the daily match cap, which changes the whole experience. The detail people skip is that the search filter setup matters quite a lot more than the reporting system, so treat the reviews with caution.

  • In practice, the block list is the thing that decides it, even if the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • Broadly speaking, the ones people keep recommending have got noticeably worse for bots, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did considerably more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • If you live somewhere dense, keep your expectations low for the first fortnight — the alternative is a dead inbox
  • When you keep getting the same profiles, the ones people keep recommending tend to feel massively worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live

Granted the chat-first sites look similar, the age check differs hardly at all, and nobody warns you about it. If you want something casual, keep the first message short and specific — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

If you are after something serious, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

The age check and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. The detail people skip is that the regional platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance since the start of the year.

What surprised me was that the block list matters a fair bit more than the matching algorithm, but it is not the disaster people claim.

  • Broadly speaking, the verification step is the thing that decides it, granted the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then move to a proper conversation quickly, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Although most of the free apps look similar, the search filter setup differs marginally, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then test two platforms at once, which most people notice within a week

In my experience, the bigger platforms have made the first message cost something, and it makes a real difference. These past few weeks the newer sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, but only if you stick with it.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datelink does more than most for anyone starting from scratch if that matches what you want.
