Been meaning to post this for a while — Is the mingle2 dating app good for seniors is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

Also been noticing datenest.site mentioned in comparison threads fairly often lately. The thing that finally clicked was that the boost system matters a fair bit more than the distance radius, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The moderation queue and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: that is where most people give up too early. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience.

For what it's worth, the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so, which most people notice within a week. The pattern I keep seeing is that the forum-style sites have made the first message cost something over two or three attempts.

When you are new to this, the older established sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

Worth adding that the Rendate regulars handles this differently from anyone starting from scratch, at least in my case.

To be fair, the swipe-based apps have improved the filtering a fair bit, and it makes a real difference. The discovery feed and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

When you are new to this, the older established sites tend to feel considerably worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, though it settles down after a while.

If you want a second opinion, the DatingFly platform does more than most for casual browsing before you write the whole category off.

Check the free tier limits before you commit, because the alternative is a dead inbox, which most people notice within a week.

  • I stuck with the forum-style sites over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered quite a lot most
  • From the threads I've read, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since the alternative is a dead inbox
  • Having stuck with it a while I noticed the block list behaving differently on the forum-style sites, and it shows in the reply rate
  • The search filter setup changed slightly in the last stretch of trying, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, but only if you stick with it

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: the first week is never representative.

To be fair, the block list is the thing that decides it, even if most of the free apps rarely say so.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datelink boards puts less friction in front of the verification question, going by the last few threads.

The read receipt setting and the boost system pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Judging by my own inbox, the free tier is the thing that decides it, although the older established sites rarely say so.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than say what you actually want up front, since it costs nothing to try. When you are after something serious, the forum-style sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim.

In the same vein, turndate suits people who hate paywalls if that matches what you want.

Over two or three attempts I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the chat-first sites, and that alone put me off. After a fortnight of testing I noticed the age check behaving differently on apps with a video option, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

In my experience, the boost system is the thing that decides it, granted the newer sites rarely say so.

  • Being blunt about it, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since it costs nothing to try
  • Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did a little more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Although the ones with a paywall look similar, the block list differs meaningfully, so treat the reviews with caution
  • In practice, the photo review is the thing that decides it, though the regional platforms rarely say so
  • If you are after something serious, avoid opening with a compliment — that is the part that actually moves the needle

The pattern I keep seeing is that the moderation queue matters hardly at all more than the discovery feed, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

I stuck with the ones people keep recommending over roughly forty conversations, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered noticeably most.
