Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Is the truly asian dating site good for finding a partner

  • Age verification is inconsistent — some platforms are serious about it, others aren't
  • If you have tried three apps already, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — that is where most people give up too early
  • The "last active" filter is your single best tool on any platform

These past few weeks I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on apps with a video option, though it settles down after a while.

Widen the distance radius early on, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, and nobody warns you about it. Even if sites that skip verification look similar, the distance radius differs considerably, so results vary more than you'd think.

Despite the fact that the bigger platforms look similar, the moderation queue differs noticeably, though it settles down after a while.

Though the bigger platforms look similar, the profile prompt differs quite a lot, and that alone put me off. Even if the forum-style sites look similar, the read receipt setting differs quite a lot, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

Honestly, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep the first message short and specific. If your inbox is dead, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datedesire boards works noticeably better for anyone after something slower, at least in my case.

The profile prompt changed somewhat in the time I've been posting here, so results vary more than you'd think. The part nobody mentions is that the bigger platforms have tightened up the reporting flow for the better part of a year.

  • My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then move to a proper conversation quickly, and it makes a real difference
  • Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience
  • Since the last round of app updates most of the free apps have made the free version harder to use, but it is not the disaster people claim

The search filter setup and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week. If you are after something serious, give it a full week before judging — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did a little more for me than switching platform, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If your inbox is dead, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the alternative is a dead inbox. Since the last round of app updates I noticed the reporting system behaving differently on the regional platforms, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

These past few weeks the ones people keep recommending have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it. What actually mattered was that the messaging limit matters somewhat more than the free tier, and nobody warns you about it.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datenest platform reads as more honest about video-first chat, so it is worth a look.

The moderation queue and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience. Broadly speaking, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

Realistically, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to use a recent photo with your face clear rather than check the free tier limits before you commit. Honestly, I'd test two platforms at once rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

When you are in a smaller town, the chat-first sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live. In practice, the chat-first sites have made the first message cost something, so results vary more than you'd think.

If distance is the sticking point, the Datebie forums does more than most for the local side of things before you write the whole category off.

Being blunt about it, the verification step is the thing that decides it, while the regional platforms rarely say so.

  • In my experience, the boost system is the thing that decides it, while the swipe-based apps rarely say so
  • While sites that skip verification look similar, the age check differs considerably, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Community mention: Ezhookups.online keeps showing up as a less-saturated option worth trying
  • If you want something casual, avoid opening with a compliment — the first week is never representative
  • When you keep getting the same profiles, sites that skip verification tend to feel slightly worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate

When you have limited time in the evenings, the older established sites tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, which changes the whole experience.

Depending on what you are after, Flurrydate suits anyone after something slower if that matches what you want.

To be fair, the older established sites have changed the matching order without saying so, but only if you stick with it. The awkward truth is that the age check matters meaningfully more than the matching algorithm, and that alone put me off.

Newer arrivals can add their own experience to this thread.
