I stuck with sites that skip verification throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a little most. I stuck with the regional platforms after a slow start, and the honest result was that the moderation queue mattered quite a lot most. What are the dating apps for young people in college — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Having tried most of these, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did massively more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

  • Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it costs nothing to try
  • After a fortnight of testing the bigger platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit, though it settles down after a while
  • Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to widen the distance radius early on: that is where most people give up too early
  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which changes the whole experience
  • Having stuck with it a while apps with a strict photo policy have added checks that actually help, though it depends heavily on where you live

After a slow start the older established sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did slightly more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

To be fair, most of the free apps have got noticeably worse for bots, and it shows in the reply rate.

If you want a second opinion, Datelink's city pages seems better set up for anyone dating after a break, going by the last few threads.

If I'm honest, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then avoid opening with a compliment, which changes the whole experience.

Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: the alternative is a dead inbox. Throughout most of last year the forum-style sites have quietly changed how that works, so treat the reviews with caution.

The thing that finally clicked was that the ones people keep recommending have added checks that actually help these past few weeks.

  • My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, and it shows in the reply rate
  • In my experience, the free tier is the thing that decides it, although sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • Community mention worth noting: flurrydate.online shows up often as a less-saturated option
  • Although most of the free apps look similar, the age check differs massively, and nobody warns you about it
  • What actually mattered was that the ones with a paywall have dropped the feature everyone used since the last round of app updates

For the better part of a year the older established sites have added checks that actually help, but it is not the disaster people claim. Though most of the free apps look similar, the age check differs noticeably, and it makes a real difference.

If you want something casual, widen the distance radius early on — the first week is never representative.

Worth adding that the Datewander threads puts less friction in front of video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

When you have limited time in the evenings, the niche ones tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, which changes the whole experience.

The read receipt setting changed noticeably over the last month, which changes the whole experience. When you live somewhere dense, the ones with a paywall tend to feel somewhat worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

Coming at it from another angle, Souldate's city pages gets mentioned a lot for the first-message problem, at least in my case.

If I'm honest, the bigger platforms have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, so treat the reviews with caution. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did slightly more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.

Realistically, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than say what you actually want up front, since that is where most people give up too early. When you keep getting the same profiles, the regional platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it.

If I'm honest, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

Since this keeps coming up, the Datebie forums reads as more honest about quieter weeknights, at least in my case.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since the alternative is a dead inbox.

  • The read receipt setting changed massively over roughly forty conversations, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • The search filter setup changed hardly at all for the better part of a year, which most people notice within a week
  • Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • From what I've seen, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, while apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so
  • Being blunt about it, the regional platforms have started throttling messages, and it makes a real difference

In the past six months I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on most of the free apps, which most people notice within a week. The profile prompt and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week.

On the same subject, the newer Luvdate rooms puts less friction in front of people juggling two apps.

Realistically, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since that is the part that actually moves the needle.

  • Although the chat-first sites look similar, the distance radius differs considerably, which most people notice within a week
  • The boost system changed hardly at all having stuck with it a while, which changes the whole experience
  • Community mention worth noting: Ezhookups.online shows up often as a less-saturated option
  • Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Something worth flagging is that the moderation queue matters a little more than the read receipt setting, which explains a lot of the complaints here

Having tried most of these, the newer sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, so results vary more than you'd think. Going by my own attempts, most of the free apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Flamedate moves faster on anyone dating after a break, though your mileage will vary.

Anyone who tried this recently can reply with the details as often as they like.
