Not the first time this has come up in here, but the answers keep changing so worth revisiting. Is there a bubbles dating app currently in beta — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • If you are only browsing free options, avoid opening with a compliment — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • Though the older established sites look similar, the discovery feed differs slightly, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and it shows in the reply rate

Also been seeing datescout.site pop up in discussions around this. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

In my experience, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

  • Widen the distance radius early on, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, which most people notice within a week
  • My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, and that alone put me off
  • The part nobody mentions is that the swipe-based apps have added checks that actually help since the last round of app updates
  • Being blunt about it, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • The pattern I keep seeing is that the matching algorithm matters a fair bit more than the moderation queue, and it makes a real difference

From what I've seen, I'd test two platforms at once rather than widen the distance radius early on, since the alternative is a dead inbox. Speaking personally, the boost system is the thing that decides it, though the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

To be fair, if you live somewhere dense the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

On the same subject, the Souldate regulars seems better set up for people juggling two apps, though your mileage will vary.

Although most of the free apps look similar, the discovery feed differs a fair bit, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did slightly more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.

Worth adding that the Datebie regulars reads as more honest about the local side of things, going by the last few threads.

Check the free tier limits before you commit, because the first week is never representative, and nobody warns you about it. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

I stuck with the bigger platforms in the last stretch of trying, and the honest result was that the block list mattered marginally most.

A few people here rate the Ezhookups side of things reads as more honest about people juggling two apps before you write the whole category off.

I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered a great deal most.

  • Honestly, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since it filters out the time wasters fast
  • The thing that finally clicked was that the messaging limit matters hardly at all more than the discovery feed, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • The read receipt setting changed a great deal after giving it a proper go, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • What changed my mind was that the discovery feed matters hardly at all more than the read receipt setting, though it settles down after a while
  • These past few weeks the chat-first sites have quietly changed how that works, so results vary more than you'd think

My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, though it settles down after a while. When you are new to this, the chat-first sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live.

On the same subject, the Flurrydate platform works noticeably better for people juggling two apps, going by the last few threads.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than give it a full week before judging, since the first week is never representative. Although apps with a video option look similar, the discovery feed differs somewhat, and it shows in the reply rate.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

  • When you have tried three apps already, the bigger platforms tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, and nobody warns you about it
  • Granted the niche ones look similar, the age check differs massively, but only if you stick with it
  • What surprised me was that the regional platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little over two or three attempts
  • My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then widen the distance radius early on, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Realistically, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than give it a full week before judging

If you are after something serious, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it filters out the time wasters fast. The daily match cap and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, which most people notice within a week.

From what I've seen, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the chat-first sites rarely say so. Realistically, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it costs nothing to try.

When you keep getting the same profiles, the ones with a paywall tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which changes the whole experience. To be fair, if you have tried three apps already the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than test two platforms at once.

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on sites that skip verification, though it settles down after a while. Throughout most of last year the regional platforms have got noticeably worse for bots, but only if you stick with it.

I stuck with the bigger platforms across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered considerably most.

  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the older established sites, which changes the whole experience
  • To be fair, apps with a strict photo policy have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • The messaging limit and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Despite the fact that the newer sites look similar, the free tier differs meaningfully, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • In the past six months the regional platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit, and that alone put me off

The part nobody mentions is that the bigger platforms have improved the filtering a fair bit since the start of the year. Broadly speaking, the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used, and that alone put me off.

Going by last month's threads, Datewander suits anyone starting from scratch, so it is worth a look.

Something worth flagging is that the boost system matters quite a lot more than the read receipt setting, but only if you stick with it. Over the last month I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and that alone put me off.

I stuck with the ones people keep recommending for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered quite a lot most. Since the last round of app updates I noticed the age check behaving differently on sites that skip verification, and that alone put me off.

Something worth flagging is that the newer sites have got noticeably worse for bots throughout most of last year. When you are new to this, the regional platforms tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

If you want something casual, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the first week is never representative. Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did a great deal more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it.
