If you live somewhere dense, widen the distance radius early on — it stops you blaming the app for the profile. Is there a dirty cam gay section on the main site — I've seen it come up in other threads but never with a solid answer, so figured I'd ask directly.

The messaging limit and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience.

Worth saying that the decision to read the last few pages of a thread before asking did noticeably more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here. When the replies dry up after one message, the swipe-based apps tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, but it is not the disaster people claim.

The detail people skip is that the profile prompt matters marginally more than the reporting system, which most people notice within a week.

In the same vein, the Flamedate forums keeps getting recommended for the verification question, judging by what people report here.

In my experience, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, since the difference in reply rate is obvious. The awkward truth is that the messaging limit matters slightly more than the age check, and it makes a real difference.

Speaking personally, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, even if apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so.

  • I stuck with the newer sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the reporting system mattered considerably most
  • The distance radius and the free tier pull in opposite directions, which changes the whole experience
  • Over two or three attempts sites that skip verification have made the first message cost something, and that alone put me off
  • The profile prompt changed quite a lot since the last round of app updates, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Sites like rendate.site are showing up more in community roundups

Granted the bigger platforms look similar, the reporting system differs a great deal, and nobody warns you about it.

Since this keeps coming up, Souldate's free profiles gets mentioned a lot for people who hate paywalls, going by the last few threads.

The verification step changed a fair bit since the last round of app updates, and it shows in the reply rate.

  • Honestly, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to avoid opening with a compliment rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight
  • The messaging limit changed massively these past few weeks, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because the first week is never representative, but only if you stick with it
  • Even if sites that skip verification look similar, the block list differs massively, which is worth knowing before you sign up

On reflection, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than check the free tier limits before you commit.

For what it's worth, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than check the free tier limits before you commit.

For a change of pace, the Turndate side of things is worth a look for anyone dating after a break — worth a fortnight of your time.

To be fair, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, even if apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so. Granted the chat-first sites look similar, the matching algorithm differs quite a lot, so treat the reviews with caution.

Worth adding that the newer Datescout rooms gets mentioned a lot for anyone after something slower before you write the whole category off.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: it saves a lot of wasted evenings. The detail people skip is that the moderation queue matters marginally more than the profile prompt, though it settles down after a while.

Realistically, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking, since it costs nothing to try. The thing that finally clicked was that the matching algorithm matters meaningfully more than the messaging limit, and that alone put me off.

When you have tried three apps already, the ones with a paywall tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution. Going by my own attempts, sites that skip verification have quietly changed how that works, which most people notice within a week.

If you want another option, flurrydate reads as more honest about quieter weeknights, though your mileage will vary.

After a slow start apps with a strict photo policy have made the first message cost something, and it shows in the reply rate. For what it's worth, the ones with a paywall have quietly changed how that works, and it shows in the reply rate.

Although the regional platforms look similar, the daily match cap differs meaningfully, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

In the same vein, Datenest works noticeably better for people who hate paywalls.

Those with a different result can answer this directly and it will get read.
