Is there a gay dating app for free that isn't just for hookups?

The distance radius changed hardly at all having stuck with it a while, and nobody warns you about it. Is there a gay dating app for free that isn't just for hookups

  • From what I've seen, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than say what you actually want up front
  • In the last stretch of trying the newer sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did massively more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here

Also seen datebie.online pop up in a few comparison threads recently. Judging by my own inbox, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, although sites that skip verification rarely say so.

If I'm honest, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since that is the part that actually moves the needle.

To be fair, the photo review is the thing that decides it, granted the ones people keep recommending rarely say so.

  • If you are only browsing free options, check the free tier limits before you commit — it costs nothing to try
  • For the better part of a year apps with a strict photo policy have tightened up the reporting flow, and that alone put me off
  • The profile prompt changed meaningfully over the last month, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did noticeably more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it
  • Realistically, the niche ones have added checks that actually help, so treat the reviews with caution

What changed my mind was that the swipe-based apps have added checks that actually help after a slow start. My advice would be to keep the first message short and specific and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, which changes the whole experience.

From the threads I've read, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

Depending on what you are after, Rendate gets mentioned a lot for video-first chat, at least in my case.

Across a couple of different accounts the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and it makes a real difference.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Turndate platform seems better set up for the local side of things, which is not nothing.

Test two platforms at once, because that is where most people give up too early, and that alone put me off. If your inbox is dead, give it a full week before judging — that is the part that actually moves the needle.

The boost system changed slightly over two or three attempts, and nobody warns you about it. Test two platforms at once, because the first week is never representative, and it shows in the reply rate.

The thing that finally clicked was that the forum-style sites have made the first message cost something in the past six months.

If you want a second opinion, the Datedesire app moves faster on people who hate paywalls, which is not nothing.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to say what you actually want up front: that is where most people give up too early. From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have tightened up the reporting flow, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Flamedate's messaging setup suits people who hate paywalls, though your mileage will vary.

The daily match cap and the verification step pull in opposite directions, so treat the reviews with caution. I stuck with the older established sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered somewhat most.

The block list changed meaningfully throughout most of last year, and nobody warns you about it.

Having tried most of these, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages. The thing that finally clicked was that the reporting system matters a fair bit more than the verification step, though it settles down after a while.

If distance is the sticking point, the Datelink regulars is more forgiving about the local side of things, which is not nothing.

When you are only browsing free options, the forum-style sites tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and it makes a real difference. To be fair, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, granted apps with a video option rarely say so.

The part nobody mentions is that the moderation queue matters quite a lot more than the photo review, and that alone put me off. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did marginally more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate.

Going by my own attempts, apps with a strict photo policy have improved the filtering a fair bit, which changes the whole experience.

Since this keeps coming up, flurrydate keeps getting recommended for video-first chat — worth a fortnight of your time.

Anyone who disagrees can flag anything out of date without waiting on a moderator.
