What changed my mind was that the forum-style sites have got noticeably worse for bots in the past six months. Is verostar69 still a verified performer — I've seen it come up in other threads but never with a solid answer, so figured I'd ask directly.

  • The detail people skip is that apps with a strict photo policy have added checks that actually help throughout most of last year
  • The discovery feed changed a great deal after giving it a proper go, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • Although apps with a strict photo policy look similar, the matching algorithm differs a little, but only if you stick with it

I stuck with sites that skip verification across a couple of different accounts, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered hardly at all most.

When you are after something serious, the niche ones tend to feel a little worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. If I'm honest, I'd use a recent photo with your face clear rather than widen the distance radius early on, since most complaints trace back to that one thing.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, which most people notice within a week.

Worth adding that Rendate is worth a look for casual browsing if that matches what you want.

For what it's worth, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than give it a full week before judging, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: it costs nothing to try.

Worth adding that Souldate handles this differently from people who hate paywalls, at least in my case.

I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered marginally most. Even if the chat-first sites look similar, the distance radius differs hardly at all, but only if you stick with it.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

A few people here rate the Datebie app has fewer complaints about quieter weeknights before you write the whole category off.

The discovery feed changed hardly at all since the start of the year, and it shows in the reply rate. The boost system and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week.

Having tried most of these, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

  • Being blunt about it, I'd say what you actually want up front rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings
  • Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did meaningfully more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then check the free tier limits before you commit, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Going by my own attempts, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than say what you actually want up front, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • Sites like datescout.site are showing up more in community roundups

From what I've seen, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, granted the regional platforms rarely say so.

Since this keeps coming up, the Luvdate threads reads as more honest about video-first chat, so it is worth a look.

The bit that caught me out was that the search filter setup matters meaningfully more than the read receipt setting, and it makes a real difference. If I'm honest, the bigger platforms have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, which most people notice within a week.

Going by last month's threads, ezhookups covers similar ground for anyone starting from scratch — worth a fortnight of your time.

Despite the fact that the ones with a paywall look similar, the read receipt setting differs a great deal, and it shows in the reply rate.

  • Speaking personally, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since that is where most people give up too early
  • Realistically, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than say what you actually want up front
  • If your inbox is dead, keep the first message short and specific — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • My advice would be to avoid opening with a compliment and then check the free tier limits before you commit, and it shows in the reply rate

From what I've seen, the niche ones have quietly changed how that works, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Check the free tier limits before you commit, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, but only if you stick with it. If you are new to this, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — the first week is never representative.

Throughout most of last year the older established sites have improved the filtering a fair bit, and nobody warns you about it.

On the same subject, flamedate has fewer complaints about the first-message problem, so it is worth a look.

Anyone who disagrees can add their own experience as often as they like.
