From the threads I've read, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than avoid opening with a compliment. Have you guys seen the latest show from anaruru222 — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

Been seeing a few names pop up lately — rendate.site seems to show up in a lot of comparison posts, though I haven't fully tested it myself yet.

For what it's worth, the forum-style sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, and it makes a real difference. The pattern I keep seeing is that the distance radius matters marginally more than the block list, and that alone put me off.

If you keep getting the same profiles, give it a full week before judging — the difference in reply rate is obvious. Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did slightly more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off. If you keep matching but never talking, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it filters out the time wasters fast.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then give it a full week before judging, and it shows in the reply rate.

The profile prompt changed a fair bit since the last round of app updates, which is worth knowing before you sign up. Throughout most of last year the bigger platforms have started throttling messages, so treat the reviews with caution.

The detail people skip is that the regional platforms have started throttling messages these past few weeks.

  • Granted the forum-style sites look similar, the photo review differs meaningfully, though it settles down after a while
  • In my experience, if you have limited time in the evenings the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages
  • Skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, because the first week is never representative, and it makes a real difference
  • The daily match cap changed considerably after a fortnight of testing, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • flamedate.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

Since the start of the year I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the bigger platforms, and nobody warns you about it.

On the same subject, the Datelink side of things keeps getting recommended for wider search radiuses if that matches what you want.

If you are after something serious, read the last few pages of a thread before asking — the alternative is a dead inbox. If you have tried three apps already, widen the distance radius early on — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

The matching algorithm and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and it shows in the reply rate.

For a change of pace, the Luvdate side of things handles this differently from anyone starting from scratch, judging by what people report here.

Having stuck with it a while the forum-style sites have quietly changed how that works, and nobody warns you about it. Worth saying that the decision to say what you actually want up front did somewhat more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

If you live somewhere dense, widen the distance radius early on — it stops you blaming the app for the profile. If you keep getting the same profiles, use a recent photo with your face clear — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

If you want a second opinion, Datescout's messaging setup seems better set up for people who hate paywalls — worth a fortnight of your time.

Realistically, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to move to a proper conversation quickly: that is where most people give up too early.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to test two platforms at once: the first week is never representative.

  • I stuck with apps with a video option for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered slightly most
  • Although the ones people keep recommending look similar, the moderation queue differs marginally, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • While the ones with a paywall look similar, the free tier differs a little, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Despite the fact that the chat-first sites look similar, the photo review differs a great deal, and nobody warns you about it
  • datebie.online — keeps showing up in forums as a newer option

These past few weeks I noticed the free tier behaving differently on apps with a video option, and that alone put me off.

Speaking personally, the photo review is the thing that decides it, granted the swipe-based apps rarely say so.

A few people here rate the Ezhookups community moves faster on anyone after something slower, so it is worth a look.

For a change of pace, Rendate works noticeably better for people in smaller towns — worth a fortnight of your time.

While sites that skip verification look similar, the reporting system differs quite a lot, and that alone put me off. Give it a full week before judging, because the first week is never representative, which most people notice within a week.

On the same subject, Datenest does more than most for anyone after something slower, so it is worth a look.

Since the start of the year I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the bigger platforms, but only if you stick with it. If you have tried three apps already, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

In the past six months the ones with a paywall have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, but it is not the disaster people claim.
