Been meaning to post this for a while — What are the best real dating sites that verify every user is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast once you actually start digging.

  • Going by my own attempts, I'd check the free tier limits before you commit rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since the first week is never representative
  • When you are in a smaller town, the niche ones tend to feel slightly worse than they are, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Say what you actually want up front, because the difference in reply rate is obvious, and it makes a real difference

From what I've seen, apps with a video option have started throttling messages, so results vary more than you'd think.

After a slow start I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on apps with a video option, and that alone put me off. My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then use a recent photo with your face clear, and it shows in the reply rate.

When you want something casual, the forum-style sites tend to feel massively worse than they are, but only if you stick with it.

For what it's worth, Datenest is more forgiving about people who hate paywalls — worth a fortnight of your time.

Move to a proper conversation quickly, because the first week is never representative, but it is not the disaster people claim. Worth saying that the decision to check the free tier limits before you commit did massively more for me than switching platform, and it makes a real difference.

Depending on what you are after, DatingFly's free messaging puts less friction in front of video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

These past few weeks I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on sites that skip verification, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Broadly speaking, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than say what you actually want up front.

The discovery feed changed a fair bit after a slow start, and nobody warns you about it.

  • From what I've seen, the bigger platforms have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and it shows in the reply rate
  • To be fair, I'd write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than move to a proper conversation quickly, since that is where most people give up too early
  • My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, and it shows in the reply rate
  • Having stuck with it a while the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Smaller platforms like turndate.site are worth a look for niche or less competitive niches

While most of the free apps look similar, the age check differs a little, and nobody warns you about it.

Having tried most of these, the forum-style sites have changed the matching order without saying so, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, the Luvdate platform reads as more honest about anyone dating after a break before you write the whole category off.

If the replies dry up after one message, check the free tier limits before you commit — it saves a lot of wasted evenings. The block list and the age check pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then avoid opening with a compliment, and it shows in the reply rate. Realistically, I'd keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

Coming at it from another angle, Ezhookups is more forgiving about anyone after something slower, at least in my case.

From the threads I've read, most of the free apps have added checks that actually help, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • Even if the regional platforms look similar, the read receipt setting differs meaningfully, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • Widen the distance radius early on, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, so treat the reviews with caution
  • The bit that caught me out was that the ones people keep recommending have made the free version harder to use after giving it a proper go
  • From what I've seen, the niche ones have quietly changed how that works, but only if you stick with it
  • If I'm honest, sites that skip verification have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, so results vary more than you'd think

What surprised me was that the daily match cap matters considerably more than the verification step, and that alone put me off.

Test two platforms at once, because otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want another option, turndate.site suits people in smaller towns, so it is worth a look.

Anyone with recent experience can flag anything out of date to this thread.
