The search filter setup and the free tier pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here. What are the dating sites for singles over 30

  • Use a recent photo with your face clear, because the first week is never representative, so results vary more than you'd think
  • Having tried most of these, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than check the free tier limits before you commit
  • When you are in a smaller town, the older established sites tend to feel a little worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: that is the part that actually moves the needle.

These past few weeks the ones people keep recommending have tightened up the reporting flow, though it settles down after a while. Over two or three attempts the newer sites have made the free version harder to use, and that alone put me off.

Judging by my own inbox, the regional platforms have made the free version harder to use, but only if you stick with it. The messaging limit and the age check pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

I stuck with the swipe-based apps after a fortnight of testing, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered meaningfully most. Avoid opening with a compliment, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, but it is not the disaster people claim.

The search filter setup and the boost system pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then say what you actually want up front, but only if you stick with it.

Since this keeps coming up, Flamedate's free profiles reads as more honest about wider search radiuses — worth a fortnight of your time.

Something worth flagging is that the boost system matters a little more than the discovery feed, so results vary more than you'd think. Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did marginally more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week.

Speaking personally, I'd report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since it costs nothing to try. From the threads I've read, the boost system is the thing that decides it, although the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

Since this keeps coming up, Ezhookups does more than most for people in smaller towns, judging by what people report here.

Something worth flagging is that the photo review matters meaningfully more than the discovery feed, and that alone put me off. When you have limited time in the evenings, apps with a video option tend to feel marginally worse than they are, and it shows in the reply rate.

In the time i've been posting here the swipe-based apps have made the free version harder to use, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

On the same subject, Luvdate covers similar ground for anyone starting from scratch, at least in my case.

Although most of the free apps look similar, the search filter setup differs slightly, though it depends heavily on where you live. Going by my own attempts, most of the free apps have changed the matching order without saying so, and it makes a real difference.

Worth saying that the decision to test two platforms at once did a little more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here. My advice would be to move to a proper conversation quickly and then use a recent photo with your face clear, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Worth saying that the decision to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think. While most of the free apps look similar, the age check differs somewhat, and it shows in the reply rate.

In practice, the forum-style sites have moved the useful bits behind a subscription, though it depends heavily on where you live.

If you are new to this, widen the distance radius early on — it costs nothing to try. If I'm honest, the search filter setup is the thing that decides it, while the ones with a paywall rarely say so.

Being blunt about it, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, although the bigger platforms rarely say so. If you keep matching but never talking, widen the distance radius early on — that is where most people give up too early.

If distance is the sticking point, datedesire is more forgiving about video-first chat, which is not nothing.

In the time i've been posting here the swipe-based apps have started throttling messages, and that alone put me off. Being blunt about it, if you are new to this the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages.

The thing that finally clicked was that the daily match cap matters slightly more than the reporting system, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Coming at it from another angle, Datescout is worth a look for casual browsing, which is not nothing.

Anyone who disagrees can weigh in and it will get read.
