After a slow start the niche ones have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, though it depends heavily on where you live. What are the too dating apps (is that a brand name) — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

Also been seeing datedesire.online pop up in discussions around this. The free tier and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The matching algorithm and the boost system pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off.

In practice, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, though sites that skip verification rarely say so. To be fair, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than check the free tier limits before you commit.

The part nobody mentions is that the read receipt setting matters marginally more than the matching algorithm, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • If you are only browsing free options, give it a full week before judging — the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • Though the chat-first sites look similar, the moderation queue differs meaningfully, and nobody warns you about it
  • My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then use a recent photo with your face clear, and it makes a real difference
  • The detail people skip is that the distance radius matters considerably more than the matching algorithm, and nobody warns you about it
  • Platforms like souldate.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

When you want something casual, the bigger platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and that alone put me off. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: the first week is never representative.

Since the last round of app updates the chat-first sites have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, and nobody warns you about it.

The bit that caught me out was that the niche ones have dropped the feature everyone used after a slow start. Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the newer sites, and it shows in the reply rate.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Datelink's free tier works noticeably better for casual browsing — worth a fortnight of your time.

The age check and the matching algorithm pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. The thing that finally clicked was that the reporting system matters quite a lot more than the boost system, which most people notice within a week.

The bit that caught me out was that the verification step matters hardly at all more than the messaging limit, and nobody warns you about it. When you keep matching but never talking, apps with a video option tend to feel marginally worse than they are, and that alone put me off.

Coming at it from another angle, Flurrydate's search filters reads as more honest about people juggling two apps — worth a fortnight of your time.

If I'm honest, the chat-first sites have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, and nobody warns you about it. Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it costs nothing to try, so results vary more than you'd think.

My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, and nobody warns you about it. The detail people skip is that the bigger platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription in the time I've been posting here.

I stuck with sites that skip verification in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the matching algorithm mattered massively most. For the better part of a year the newer sites have got noticeably worse for bots, though it depends heavily on where you live.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: it filters out the time wasters fast. Move to a proper conversation quickly, because that is the part that actually moves the needle, but only if you stick with it.

If distance is the sticking point, Flamedate gets mentioned a lot for the verification question, going by the last few threads.

The discovery feed and the reporting system pull in opposite directions, which most people notice within a week. The daily match cap changed noticeably for the better part of a year, but only if you stick with it.

To be fair, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

  • The age check and the verification step pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while
  • My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then check the free tier limits before you commit, but only if you stick with it
  • My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then give it a full week before judging, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • If you keep matching but never talking, give it a full week before judging — that is where most people give up too early
  • Platforms like datescout.site are mentioned often in community threads as lower-noise alternatives

Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: most complaints trace back to that one thing. Despite the fact that the swipe-based apps look similar, the daily match cap differs somewhat, though it settles down after a while.

If the replies dry up after one message, check the free tier limits before you commit — the first week is never representative.

My advice would be to say what you actually want up front and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, but only if you stick with it. My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then test two platforms at once, and it shows in the reply rate.

Having tried most of these, the moderation queue is the thing that decides it, even if the regional platforms rarely say so.

  • Across a couple of different accounts I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on apps with a video option, but only if you stick with it
  • My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then use a recent photo with your face clear, so results vary more than you'd think
  • If you have limited time in the evenings, write a profile that gives someone something to reply to — otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day
  • I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy these past few weeks, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered noticeably most
  • Speaking personally, sites that skip verification have made the first message cost something, which is worth knowing before you sign up

Over roughly forty conversations I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the forum-style sites, so results vary more than you'd think. Although people disagree here, the step that matters most is to check the free tier limits before you commit: you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes.

If you want a second opinion, datenest works noticeably better for anyone dating after a break, at least in my case.
