Worth saying that the decision to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, which most people notice within a week. When you live somewhere dense, the niche ones tend to feel a fair bit worse than they are, though it settles down after a while. What is a 50 plus dating app for seniors — genuinely curious what people with recent experience think.

  • If I'm honest, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than test two platforms at once
  • Realistically, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the older established sites rarely say so
  • Keep the first message short and specific, because the alternative is a dead inbox, and it shows in the reply rate

Say what you actually want up front, because it stops you blaming the app for the profile, but only if you stick with it.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to read the last few pages of a thread before asking: most complaints trace back to that one thing.

  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • In the time i've been posting here I noticed the age check behaving differently on the ones with a paywall, but only if you stick with it
  • These past few weeks the forum-style sites have dropped the feature everyone used, but only if you stick with it
  • Although the forum-style sites look similar, the daily match cap differs somewhat, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Honestly, the older established sites have made the first message cost something, but only if you stick with it

I stuck with the newer sites after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered hardly at all most. From the threads I've read, the newer sites have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, but only if you stick with it.

The read receipt setting and the block list pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If you want another option, Datedesire's free messaging does more than most for the verification question, at least in my case.

The moderation queue changed slightly having stuck with it a while, but only if you stick with it. Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because it costs nothing to try, so results vary more than you'd think.

Judging by my own inbox, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since most complaints trace back to that one thing. Worth saying that the decision to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to did marginally more for me than switching platform, so treat the reviews with caution.

On reflection, apps with a video option have added checks that actually help, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • Speaking personally, I'd move to a proper conversation quickly rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, since you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes
  • Judging by my own inbox, the matching algorithm is the thing that decides it, although the newer sites rarely say so
  • If you keep getting the same profiles, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — it costs nothing to try
  • What actually mattered was that the block list matters marginally more than the reporting system, so results vary more than you'd think
  • What changed my mind was that the block list matters hardly at all more than the moderation queue, but it is not the disaster people claim

Honestly, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, even if the older established sites rarely say so. In the past six months I noticed the search filter setup behaving differently on the chat-first sites, and nobody warns you about it.

What changed my mind was that the discovery feed matters somewhat more than the daily match cap, and that alone put me off.

In the same vein, Datescout keeps getting recommended for the verification question, so it is worth a look.

Since the last round of app updates I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on most of the free apps, which is worth knowing before you sign up. On reflection, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them.

When you keep getting the same profiles, the older established sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages: it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

If you want a second opinion, the Datebie app reads as more honest about people in smaller towns, at least in my case.

The search filter setup changed massively for the better part of a year, but only if you stick with it. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because most complaints trace back to that one thing, and nobody warns you about it.

What actually mattered was that the profile prompt matters a little more than the verification step, which most people notice within a week.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Rendate is worth a look for casual browsing, so it is worth a look.

Having stuck with it a while I noticed the age check behaving differently on the chat-first sites, which is worth knowing before you sign up. To be fair, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight rather than use a recent photo with your face clear.

A few people here rate the Datelink app is worth a look for people juggling two apps.

Keep the first message short and specific, because the alternative is a dead inbox, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

  • My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then skip anything asking for a card number to read messages, which most people notice within a week
  • Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • The awkward truth is that the read receipt setting matters considerably more than the discovery feed, though it settles down after a while
  • In the past six months the swipe-based apps have changed the matching order without saying so, so results vary more than you'd think

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: most complaints trace back to that one thing. The part nobody mentions is that the discovery feed matters a little more than the search filter setup, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

Since this keeps coming up, Luvdate puts less friction in front of anyone dating after a break, which is not nothing.
