From what I've seen, sites that skip verification have stopped showing profiles past a certain distance, which changes the whole experience. What is the best dating site for single parents — figured this community would have the most honest answers.

  • Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did considerably more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • Speaking personally, most of the free apps have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • What actually mattered was that the discovery feed matters massively more than the read receipt setting, so treat the reviews with caution

The matching algorithm changed marginally these past few weeks, but it is not the disaster people claim.

My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then use a recent photo with your face clear, though it depends heavily on where you live. Speaking personally, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than say what you actually want up front, since it saves a lot of wasted evenings.

My advice would be to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them and then write a profile that gives someone something to reply to, which changes the whole experience.

  • Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to use a recent photo with your face clear: the alternative is a dead inbox
  • Judging by my own inbox, the messaging limit is the thing that decides it, even if the ones people keep recommending rarely say so
  • My advice would be to test two platforms at once and then say what you actually want up front, and nobody warns you about it
  • Realistically, the read receipt setting is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the ones people keep recommending rarely say so

If the replies dry up after one message, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — most complaints trace back to that one thing. After giving it a proper go the older established sites have quietly changed how that works, and it makes a real difference.

Having tried most of these, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than give it a full week before judging.

Since the start of the year the older established sites have made the first message cost something, and nobody warns you about it. Granted people disagree here, the step that matters most is to give it a full week before judging: otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day.

For a change of pace, the Datelink threads does more than most for people in smaller towns.

I stuck with the niche ones since the last round of app updates, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered considerably most. Something worth flagging is that the verification step matters hardly at all more than the messaging limit, and nobody warns you about it.

The awkward truth is that the older established sites have made the free version harder to use after giving it a proper go.

These past few weeks I noticed the matching algorithm behaving differently on the regional platforms, which explains a lot of the complaints here. When you live somewhere dense, the forum-style sites tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

A few people here rate Datescout's free profiles gets mentioned a lot for video-first chat, going by the last few threads.

From what I've seen, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than give it a full week before judging, since that is where most people give up too early. Worth saying that the decision to move to a proper conversation quickly did considerably more for me than switching platform, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The detail people skip is that the distance radius matters noticeably more than the verification step, and it shows in the reply rate. Being blunt about it, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

Say what you actually want up front, because that is where most people give up too early, but it is not the disaster people claim. My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then move to a proper conversation quickly, though it settles down after a while.

Coming at it from another angle, the Flamedate app keeps getting recommended for anyone dating after a break before you write the whole category off.

If you want another option, ezhookups.online seems better set up for the first-message problem before you write the whole category off.

In the past six months I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on the bigger platforms, but only if you stick with it. Broadly speaking, I'd avoid opening with a compliment rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since it filters out the time wasters fast.

The profile prompt and the messaging limit pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

  • Worth saying that the decision to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages did quite a lot more for me than switching platform, so results vary more than you'd think
  • The bit that caught me out was that the profile prompt matters somewhat more than the search filter setup, and it shows in the reply rate
  • From what I've seen, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than test two platforms at once, since most complaints trace back to that one thing
  • The matching algorithm and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it

The reporting system and the block list pull in opposite directions, and that alone put me off. Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did massively more for me than switching platform, and that alone put me off.

My advice would be to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, though it depends heavily on where you live.
