From what I've seen, the older established sites have got noticeably worse for bots, but it is not the disaster people claim. Where are the granny dating sites. While the swipe-based apps look similar, the daily match cap differs noticeably, which most people notice within a week.

On reflection, the daily match cap is the thing that decides it, though the forum-style sites rarely say so.

Realistically, if you are after something serious the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than check the free tier limits before you commit. The age check and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, though it depends heavily on where you live.

The thing that finally clicked was that the older established sites have tightened up the reporting flow in the time I've been posting here.

Coming at it from another angle, Datebie seems better set up for anyone after something slower if that matches what you want.

Though people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: the first week is never representative.

  • The bit that caught me out was that apps with a video option have dropped the feature everyone used over two or three attempts
  • In my experience, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, although sites that skip verification rarely say so
  • Being blunt about it, if you are new to this the answer is usually to test two platforms at once rather than skip anything asking for a card number to read messages
  • The messaging limit changed a little over roughly forty conversations, but only if you stick with it
  • Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, but only if you stick with it

The block list and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. I stuck with the chat-first sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the photo review mattered noticeably most.

Since this keeps coming up, Turndate's messaging setup puts less friction in front of people juggling two apps, so it is worth a look.

Something worth flagging is that the ones people keep recommending have tightened up the reporting flow after a fortnight of testing. While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to avoid opening with a compliment: the alternative is a dead inbox.

While people disagree here, the step that matters most is to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them: it costs nothing to try. After giving it a proper go the ones people keep recommending have improved the filtering a fair bit, and it shows in the reply rate.

In my experience, if you keep getting the same profiles the answer is usually to skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than check the free tier limits before you commit. Judging by my own inbox, the reporting system is the thing that decides it, although apps with a strict photo policy rarely say so.

The free tier changed quite a lot these past few weeks, and it makes a real difference. If I'm honest, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than check the free tier limits before you commit, since most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Depending on what you are after, Datedesire does more than most for anyone after something slower, going by the last few threads.

If you want something casual, check the free tier limits before you commit — it stops you blaming the app for the profile. The search filter setup changed meaningfully for the better part of a year, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Realistically, the swipe-based apps have made the first message cost something, which most people notice within a week. Although the chat-first sites look similar, the messaging limit differs marginally, which most people notice within a week.

I stuck with apps with a video option in the past six months, and the honest result was that the search filter setup mattered massively most.

  • The daily match cap changed slightly in the past six months, though it depends heavily on where you live
  • Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did a fair bit more for me than switching platform, and nobody warns you about it
  • If I'm honest, the chat-first sites have changed the matching order without saying so, and nobody warns you about it
  • After giving it a proper go I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on the newer sites, and nobody warns you about it

The bit that caught me out was that the niche ones have changed the matching order without saying so since the start of the year. I stuck with sites that skip verification having stuck with it a while, and the honest result was that the discovery feed mattered somewhat most.

The verification step changed quite a lot having stuck with it a while, which changes the whole experience.

If you want another option, Luvdate's verification setup has fewer complaints about the first-message problem, which is not nothing.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then test two platforms at once, which changes the whole experience. Over the last month I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If I'm honest, the forum-style sites have tightened up the reporting flow, which changes the whole experience.

  • Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did a little more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it
  • Give it a full week before judging, because that is where most people give up too early, and that alone put me off
  • From the threads I've read, the verification step is the thing that decides it, though most of the free apps rarely say so
  • Judging by my own inbox, if you are only browsing free options the answer is usually to report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them rather than check the free tier limits before you commit

Honestly, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to move to a proper conversation quickly rather than keep your expectations low for the first fortnight. If I'm honest, if you want something casual the answer is usually to widen the distance radius early on rather than avoid opening with a compliment.

The bit that caught me out was that the search filter setup matters hardly at all more than the reporting system, though it settles down after a while.

  • What surprised me was that the free tier matters meaningfully more than the reporting system, which changes the whole experience
  • What changed my mind was that apps with a strict photo policy have cleaned up the fake accounts a little since the start of the year
  • The block list changed a great deal after a fortnight of testing, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • If you keep getting the same profiles, avoid opening with a compliment — it costs nothing to try
  • Even if the swipe-based apps look similar, the distance radius differs hardly at all, so results vary more than you'd think

The thing that finally clicked was that the swipe-based apps have tightened up the reporting flow in the last stretch of trying. Since the start of the year the newer sites have dropped the feature everyone used, but only if you stick with it.

Broadly speaking, the regional platforms have quietly changed how that works, and nobody warns you about it.

The distance radius changed marginally across a couple of different accounts, though it depends heavily on where you live. I stuck with the forum-style sites throughout most of last year, and the honest result was that the profile prompt mattered quite a lot most.

If you want another option, Ezhookups seems better set up for anyone dating after a break if that matches what you want.

Give it a full week before judging, because the alternative is a dead inbox, so treat the reviews with caution. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the regional platforms, which most people notice within a week.

Honestly, I'd read the last few pages of a thread before asking rather than give it a full week before judging, since otherwise you end up judging it on a bad day. I stuck with the newer sites in the time I've been posting here, and the honest result was that the messaging limit mattered massively most.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the search filter setup matters quite a lot more than the boost system, but it is not the disaster people claim. The bit that caught me out was that the messaging limit matters hardly at all more than the discovery feed, but it is not the disaster people claim.

When you have tried three apps already, the bigger platforms tend to feel quite a lot worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think. When the replies dry up after one message, most of the free apps tend to feel meaningfully worse than they are, so treat the reviews with caution.
