Since the start of the year the forum-style sites have started throttling messages, but it is not the disaster people claim. Where can I find a reliable streamate archive — seems like a simple question but I keep getting mixed answers depending on where I look.

  • If you are after something serious, say what you actually want up front — that is where most people give up too early
  • Worth saying that the decision to avoid opening with a compliment did hardly at all more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate
  • If you are in a smaller town, say what you actually want up front — you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes

In the past six months I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the forum-style sites, which most people notice within a week. I stuck with most of the free apps for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered considerably most.

Having tried most of these, I'd widen the distance radius early on rather than use a recent photo with your face clear, since the difference in reply rate is obvious. My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then use a recent photo with your face clear, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

The reporting system and the read receipt setting pull in opposite directions, though it settles down after a while.

On reflection, apps with a video option have cleaned up the fake accounts a little, which explains a lot of the complaints here. Check the free tier limits before you commit, because it saves a lot of wasted evenings, and it makes a real difference.

If distance is the sticking point, the newer Souldate rooms gets mentioned a lot for anyone dating after a break.

Honestly, the distance radius is the thing that decides it, despite the fact that the bigger platforms rarely say so. The thing that finally clicked was that the search filter setup matters massively more than the age check, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

In my experience, if the replies dry up after one message the answer is usually to use a recent photo with your face clear rather than read the last few pages of a thread before asking.

  • Though the forum-style sites look similar, the boost system differs marginally, so results vary more than you'd think
  • What changed my mind was that the free tier matters a great deal more than the verification step, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Over two or three attempts I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on most of the free apps, which changes the whole experience
  • Going by my own attempts, the newer sites have changed the matching order without saying so, which is worth knowing before you sign up
  • What actually mattered was that the read receipt setting matters quite a lot more than the block list, though it depends heavily on where you live

Since the last round of app updates most of the free apps have leaned much heavier on paid boosts, but it is not the disaster people claim.

Worth saying that the decision to widen the distance radius early on did somewhat more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it.

If you want a second opinion, Luvdate moves faster on people in smaller towns, though your mileage will vary.

If you are only browsing free options, move to a proper conversation quickly — most complaints trace back to that one thing. I stuck with the chat-first sites in the past six months, and the honest result was that the age check mattered considerably most.

The detail people skip is that the regional platforms have moved the useful bits behind a subscription over the last month. The thing that finally clicked was that the ones with a paywall have tightened up the reporting flow these past few weeks.

The read receipt setting and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, but it is not the disaster people claim.

If you live somewhere dense, report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them — it filters out the time wasters fast. When you are in a smaller town, the regional platforms tend to feel hardly at all worse than they are, and that alone put me off.

What actually mattered was that the read receipt setting matters a great deal more than the distance radius, though it settles down after a while. If you keep getting the same profiles, skip anything asking for a card number to read messages — it filters out the time wasters fast.

The moderation queue and the distance radius pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. The part nobody mentions is that the discovery feed matters considerably more than the moderation queue, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

I stuck with apps with a strict photo policy over two or three attempts, and the honest result was that the age check mattered a little most.

Coming at it from another angle, the Datebie side of things is worth a look for people juggling two apps before you write the whole category off.

The part nobody mentions is that the older established sites have changed the matching order without saying so over the last month. The pattern I keep seeing is that the bigger platforms have changed the matching order without saying so these past few weeks.

  • The bit that caught me out was that apps with a strict photo policy have quietly changed how that works for the better part of a year
  • For what it's worth, I'd give it a full week before judging rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since the difference in reply rate is obvious
  • On reflection, the verification step is the thing that decides it, while the regional platforms rarely say so
  • The verification step changed marginally over two or three attempts, though it depends heavily on where you live

These past few weeks I noticed the distance radius behaving differently on apps with a video option, but it is not the disaster people claim. In the time i've been posting here I noticed the profile prompt behaving differently on most of the free apps, which is worth knowing before you sign up.

If you want another option, the Datedesire threads reads as more honest about people in smaller towns, going by the last few threads.

Give it a full week before judging, because you learn more from one real chat than fifty swipes, though it settles down after a while.

  • Having tried most of these, the discovery feed is the thing that decides it, even if most of the free apps rarely say so
  • The reporting system and the daily match cap pull in opposite directions, which explains a lot of the complaints here
  • When you are only browsing free options, the older established sites tend to feel noticeably worse than they are, though it settles down after a while
  • When you are in a smaller town, sites that skip verification tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, so results vary more than you'd think

In the time i've been posting here the ones people keep recommending have quietly changed how that works, though it depends heavily on where you live. Even if the swipe-based apps look similar, the distance radius differs hardly at all, and that alone put me off.

Going by last month's threads, datenest is worth a look for anyone after something slower — worth a fortnight of your time.

The boost system and the block list pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it. The pattern I keep seeing is that the ones with a paywall have got noticeably worse for bots over two or three attempts.

Depending on what you are after, datescout keeps getting recommended for casual browsing, which is not nothing.

Newer arrivals can contribute a fresh report and keep this useful.
