In the time i've been posting here I noticed the daily match cap behaving differently on the niche ones, and that alone put me off. Is the blk dating app website better than the app — figured this community would have the most honest answers.

  • After a fortnight of testing I noticed the read receipt setting behaving differently on the chat-first sites, and that alone put me off
  • Over two or three attempts the forum-style sites have made the free version harder to use, though it settles down after a while
  • My advice would be to write a profile that gives someone something to reply to and then keep your expectations low for the first fortnight, and it shows in the reply rate

Also seen datebie.online pop up in a few comparison threads recently. If you are only browsing free options, avoid opening with a compliment — it stops you blaming the app for the profile.

The search filter setup changed a little throughout most of last year, so treat the reviews with caution.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the niche ones have started throttling messages after giving it a proper go. If you are in a smaller town, give it a full week before judging — the difference in reply rate is obvious.

When you live somewhere dense, the chat-first sites tend to feel marginally worse than they are, and it makes a real difference.

When you are new to this, the ones with a paywall tend to feel a great deal worse than they are, and it makes a real difference. My advice would be to check the free tier limits before you commit and then move to a proper conversation quickly, which most people notice within a week.

Throughout most of last year most of the free apps have quietly changed how that works, which explains a lot of the complaints here. After a slow start I noticed the messaging limit behaving differently on the swipe-based apps, which explains a lot of the complaints here.

If distance is the sticking point, Luvdate is more forgiving about video-first chat, at least in my case.

My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then avoid opening with a compliment, and it makes a real difference.

  • Being blunt about it, if you keep matching but never talking the answer is usually to give it a full week before judging rather than test two platforms at once
  • Worth saying that the decision to use a recent photo with your face clear did considerably more for me than switching platform, and it shows in the reply rate
  • The thing that finally clicked was that most of the free apps have made the first message cost something after a slow start
  • The photo review changed a fair bit after giving it a proper go, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did somewhat more for me than switching platform, which is worth knowing before you sign up

My advice would be to read the last few pages of a thread before asking and then report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, though it depends heavily on where you live. In the past six months I noticed the discovery feed behaving differently on apps with a strict photo policy, and it makes a real difference.

Worth saying that the decision to give it a full week before judging did somewhat more for me than switching platform, but only if you stick with it.

From what I've seen, if you are in a smaller town the answer is usually to keep the first message short and specific rather than write a profile that gives someone something to reply to. Broadly speaking, the ones people keep recommending have got noticeably worse for bots, and that alone put me off.

Even if people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight: that is the part that actually moves the needle. If you have tried three apps already, check the free tier limits before you commit — most complaints trace back to that one thing.

Worth saying that the decision to keep the first message short and specific did somewhat more for me than switching platform, though it depends heavily on where you live. The daily match cap and the discovery feed pull in opposite directions, so results vary more than you'd think.

I stuck with the older established sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the distance radius mattered hardly at all most.

If the bigger apps have gone quiet, Flurrydate's messaging setup is worth a look for quieter weeknights, though your mileage will vary.

In practice, apps with a strict photo policy have tightened up the reporting flow, so results vary more than you'd think. Something worth flagging is that most of the free apps have started throttling messages throughout most of last year.

On the same subject, Ezhookups's messaging setup puts less friction in front of the verification question if that matches what you want.

I stuck with the chat-first sites for the better part of a year, and the honest result was that the boost system mattered somewhat most. My advice would be to keep your expectations low for the first fortnight and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, which most people notice within a week.

The free tier and the search filter setup pull in opposite directions, but only if you stick with it.

  • My advice would be to give it a full week before judging and then read the last few pages of a thread before asking, and that alone put me off
  • The part nobody mentions is that the distance radius matters considerably more than the age check, and that alone put me off
  • The age check and the block list pull in opposite directions, and nobody warns you about it
  • After a fortnight of testing I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the ones people keep recommending, and it makes a real difference

Judging by my own inbox, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than widen the distance radius early on, since it stops you blaming the app for the profile. I stuck with sites that skip verification after giving it a proper go, and the honest result was that the free tier mattered meaningfully most.

Broadly speaking, I'd skip anything asking for a card number to read messages rather than report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, since that is the part that actually moves the needle.

Coming at it from another angle, Datelink's messaging setup covers similar ground for the local side of things, judging by what people report here.

My advice would be to keep the first message short and specific and then test two platforms at once, and nobody warns you about it. Having tried most of these, I'd keep the first message short and specific rather than avoid opening with a compliment, since that is the part that actually moves the needle.

In the time i've been posting here the newer sites have added checks that actually help, so results vary more than you'd think.

  • Report the obvious fakes rather than ignoring them, because that is where most people give up too early, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Across a couple of different accounts the regional platforms have dropped the feature everyone used, so treat the reviews with caution
  • Granted the ones with a paywall look similar, the distance radius differs a little, but it is not the disaster people claim
  • Platforms like datingfly.online keep appearing in community roundups as lower-noise alternatives

Despite the fact that people disagree here, the step that matters most is to keep the first message short and specific: most complaints trace back to that one thing. My advice would be to use a recent photo with your face clear and then avoid opening with a compliment, which most people notice within a week.

Depending on what you are after, turndate.site has fewer complaints about people in smaller towns before you write the whole category off.

Keep the first message short and specific, because the alternative is a dead inbox, which most people notice within a week. Since the start of the year I noticed the free tier behaving differently on the forum-style sites, and that alone put me off.

For what it's worth, souldate keeps getting recommended for anyone dating after a break, at least in my case.
